I am looking to get a new black vinyl top and black headliner for my 71 GS.Was wondering where fellow board members bought theirs and if there are certain ones to shy away from. I am not really worried about true originality but would like correct appearances.Any help?:beer

If you don't mind my asking, what was included in the interior kits and how much did it cost?

    Thanks

How much? About twice what you will pay for any other GM A body car interior. They are the only ones doing Buick/Skylark/GS interiors and they charge accordingly.

There product IS VERY GOOD, AND EXPENSIVE.

I can buy a complete 70-72 Chevelle interior including front and rear seat covers, completely assembed front and rear door panels, headliner and carpet for around $550.

The seat covers alone (F&R) for a 70-72 GS Buick are well over $500! The door panels are at least $350 and they are not completely assembled! You have to install the upper metal yourself! Then add carpet, headliner etc.

PUI in Louisville, CARS in Michigan make all sorts of Chevrolet/Olds/Pontiac interiors. No Buick. I believe that Legendary is the only game in town for 70-72 Buick. Get it from Poston, Legendary. Get it from Year One, Legendary. It may be in a box with the vendors name but Legendary made it.

Maybe someone else can reply, but that's your answer as I understand the currently available 70-72 Buick interiors.

Again, Legendary makes VERY NICE STUFF and charges accordingly.

you need to compare apples to apples you can't go by what you would pay for any chevy stuff. all i know is that i want the nicest for my car and legendary has it .

    Todd,

In a lot of ways, yes you can compare what you pay for Chevy interior.

The vinyl yardage may have different grains such a Madiera or it may not. Yes, there is investment in the dies need for the hot stamp, but that same investment was needed for Chevy/Pontiac/Olds interiors and was made buy the big guys. Let's face it, 70-72 Olds and Pontiac interior sales can't be that much greater than 70-72 Buick interior sales.

You can buy Cherolet door panels completely assembled with fuzzies, metal upper complete. Not Buick. You must assemble them with YOUR old metal upper and the unassembled door panels cost darn near twice the money from Legendary.

Apprently the big GM interior guys think there is only enough room for one manufacturer and therefore have not made the investment.

Legendary is REAL BIG in Mopar interiors. That's now their main bread and butter. The Mopar market is booming. I expect the other guys to follow into that market.

Example of other GM interior similiar to 70-72 Buick is Monte Carlo. Only one manufacturer, CARS. You want Monte, thats where you go. None of the others must think the market can/will support two manufacturers. I think they are probably right. I also have a 72 Monte Carlo Convertible.

As we have seen many times on this board already with repo Buick stuff, the market is small and not well supported. Look at Alans 70-72 tailight sales. He was up to 18 sets the last time I looked.

Legendary makes a very nice Buick interior product. They could/should go the extra mile and offer assembled door panels. I spoke with them at Charlotte Autofair in 2002 about this fact. Their response was that they can sell all of them unassembled and saw no need for the tooling investment to offer assembled door panels.

That means we are suckers that will buy it anyway so why bother.

I understand that you want the best for your Buick. But the comparison here has nothing to do with Chevy/Buick. It has to do with the fact that Buick interior is no more expensive to manufacture than Chevy including investment in tooling. Therefore the only answer is that the payback is slow or not there at all. What we have here is a case of NO COMPETITION and there is NO NEED to cut their price and they are slow to improve the product. Sure, they COULD sell at Chevy prices, but WHY!

They do not need to do that.

Capitalism is alive and well in the US!

UPI does actually make interior pieces and exterior trim and weatherstripping. Their customer service sucks a you know what, though. I ordered a bunch of stuff from Steele Rubber and some of the stuff came from UPI, some stuff was bent, couldn't be used. Called Steele Rubber and got the new stuff the next day, gave the bent stuff to the UPS man, the next day received phone call from UPI yelling at me for screwing up their claim with UPS. Hope this is helpfull.

hi mike when i said that, i meant the same as what you said just in a different way . it's obvious that if you own a chevy these things are going to be cheaper because of the #'s same as trying to get a 71 gs grille or any buick repo part there's no profit to be made so the big guy's look right over every buick owners heads .i'm happy to have this website and all the great people associated with it i'm glad we have guys like alan ,jim w, mike g, just to, name a few .
