Many thanks to everybody who weighed in with their opinions. Despite the fact I'm lazy and will usually opt for whatever requires the least effort to keep clean, I'm about 90 per cent in agreement right now that white is the best choice, for the reasons stated by Duane and others.
my 72 Pontiac is green/gold with a tan interior. When I did my top I went from tan to black, and quickly realized it was the wrong choice... it just looks wrong, it needs to be the lighter color.. My vote is for white
100% correct restoration,I would go with white. I have 2 cars with white interior, and what a PITA. How often do you guys ride around with the top up? I mainly use the top when I need protection from the elements...which is rare. I'm replacing my white top with black,as my centurion is strictly a driver. The original bench has a couple tears and needs some work...and may get some Black buckets eventually. White interiors and tops seem to show more wear than most colors...just sayin.
I'm doing the same with my yellow 72 convertible. I had a strato mist blue with a white top, nice combo but it with tough to keep clean. Photograph it digitally and then print it out and color the top black, you can see how it looks. ---------- Post added at 10:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:30 AM ---------- Also, try a black decal or paint the hood?
Picked the car up today at the top shop (or towed it home, rather, because it wouldn't start. ) The majority vote here was for white, so that's what I eventually decided on. Thanks again to everyone who weighed in with an opinion, and especially to Curtis for posting those great pics. :TU:
That's a great looking top job! Many times you see where they cut the the piece w/ chrome ends that covers the tacking strip too short...like stupid short...2-3" away from the seams. Yours looks very nice.
I had a white top, went black.......white is tough to keep clean....white seats are easier on the skin in the hot weather
Not to steal this thread, Does anyone have information on the Gulfstream Blue convertible next to the Aquamist one in the line of Pix? I think it is My Dad's/Brother Bill's car that was sold to Reg Thompson @ the 04 BPG event. Front rims & Tires, spoiler, Colors etc. say it's the car, (painted rims were on it going into Canada) Any info is appreciated. JR Wills
I’ve had multiple white tops, all you need to do is keep after them. The sun will take a lot of wrinkles out of a white top as well, and when you’re done put in the garage and get a heat gun out and make the rest of them disappear, I would often do that prior to a major show where the top needed to be perfect. A lazy man cannot own a white top and expect it to keep looking its best.
