I sent free parts to Jacob "Phoenix350", a Power brake booster, a Master cylinder and a proportioning valve, all he had to do was pay for shipping. Jacob estimated shipping at $12.00, I do not know how he came up with that number. Actual shipping costs were $21.00, an increase of $9.00. Jacob is throwing a hissy fit over the $9.00 difference. I did not make a cent off of this deal. Where can anyone find all of those parts for $21.00?
I am out $21.00 shipping costs plus the "Good Will" free parts and my time.
    Watch out for Jacob!

    NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!!!!!

I got so mad at him I told him to keep the parts and his money - I don't want anything more to do with the little pri*k.

    Jacob,

Did you get the power brake booster, master cylinder and proportioning valve that I sent you?

I am in queens right now, I wasn't aware that it was shipped. I'll call up my dad to make sure. What was the shipping total?

    </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
    It was about $21.00

    </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Holy crap $21!!?? I had it quoted at about $12 through the usps

    </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Those were the shipping costs, I am not making any money off of you.

    </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
I understand that but if I was contacted with the shipping quote before the package was sent I would not have gone through with it for $21. I don't have money to toss around when instead I could save $10 bucks for the same service.

    </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Geez, you're going off about $10.00? We all told you that your rust bucket was a bad investment but you would not listen. If you do not want the Master Cylinder, Power brake booster and Proportioning valve for the shipping costs only then send them back. I won't have anything more to do with you in the future. :Do No:
    Thanks,
    Lee

    </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
The point is that you just sent the stuff without telling me the cost. $10 isn't much either way, so why would you choose the more expensive shipping method when I provided an accurate quote? Then you don't even ask about payment untill weeks after shipping. $21 for shipping from pa to ny is ridiculous. Ive shipped 6ft spoilers cross country for that kind of price. I will pay you what I agreed to pay which is $11. If a moderator needs to be involved then so be it.

Sorry for this unpleasantry but I'm stuck on speding money wisely

Dude got a working proportioning valve for free and is complaining about $21 for shipping?

Well, there are probably reasons for the disparity in the shipping quote vs actual. I found out recently myself. If you walk in to a fedex or ups drop off facility as an individual, you will pay a much higher price than if you send the same package on a corporate account.

I recently needed to ship a sway bar back to someone here on the board. I was quoted close to $40 at a Fedex facility. I quoted the same package using our corporate account here at work, at it cost me under $18!

I don't know if this is the case here, but wherever possible I will use our corporate account for shipping!

Dude got a PB Booster, MC and Proprtioning valve for $21.00 and is throwing a hissy fit over the $9.00 difference. Can you believe it? If you read his posts about the rust bucket he is restoring he is throwing money around at all sorts of unrelated junk left and right. I think the kid is Bi-Polar or didn't take his medicine.

Wow, that is a total bummer!
Lee, I know you weren't "eager to learn", but learn, you did! :Dou:

Try not to let this bad experience get you down.
You were kind and generous, and though the recipient of your generosity doesn't appreciate it, the rest of us do.
We need more people like you - guys wanting to help out someone just to be nice - not less. :beer Good on ya!

You didn't even ask to be compensated for handling or packaging the parts but he still chooses to treat you that way, that's just wrong he should be thanking you but that's just my opinion.

At the least you deserve to have your parts returned if he's unwilling to cover your actual shipping cost.

So how did he get an accurate quote without the parts and box in front of him? Any one can guess! Shipping has gotten ridiculous. Lee you got hosed but I for one will file Phoenix350 as one to avoid.....

Probably didn't take into account the volume of the package due to the booster, that sometimes bumps costs more than weight.

I agree, what a dick move.

WoW Give someone your parts for FREE and there is a problem over $21. shipping. for all those parts! That is unlike all the class guys I have delt with on the V8 Buick board. Phoenix350 should pay up and feel lucky. I would.

I will not stop being generous or considerate of others. But I will call a spade a spade.
Thank you all for your kind words and support, feeling validated over this issue definitely helps to smooth out the hairs on the back of my neck.

I have a lot of old unused parts, both for the Skylark and for my Corvette as well. I share them and pass them on when I can afford to, sometimes I trade for stuff, sometimes we agree on a price. In the 6 years I have been "exchanging" information, meeting folks and sharing, trading or selling things on these forums I have ALWAYS done business based on a mans word. Jacob is the first unappreciative and disrespectful person I have encountered on this forum,:spank: I hope that he is the last.

As long as the mods do not ban me  for cursing Jacob in the PM that I sent him  I will continue to participate in the forum in the fashion that we are accustomed to. :Comp:

    Lee

PS - I had a gut feeling that this kid was trouble, then I got soft and gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Moral of the story? Trust that gut feeling man! It's usually right!

Plus $21 is not outrageous for shipping on the heavy brake parts you describe!

There always has to be at least one in every crowd, thanks for sharing the PM's as this clearly shows both sides and clearly shows he is someone I would never want to do business with, Phoenix350 should crawl back under the rock he came from.

Looking at the other thread. Looked like to me Phoenix350 assumed a master cylinder and booster would fit into a flat rate box. The master cylinder would, but no way a booster. I once shiped 38lbs of rings and pinions in a flat rate box for $12 and change, LMAO! But each shipping case is different.

First let me say what a pain it is to ship something.

Find a box, package securely, tape it up, address label, go to the post office or UPS on Saturday or during your lunch hour, and then stand in line for who knows how long. Even the after hours unattended machine is a pain.

He expects you to go through all that, get to the front of the line and learn it is $9 more than what the buyer (I'm sorry "gift recipient") said he estimated. Then he wants you to say to yourself "Wait that's more than what the guy who didn't know the size of the box or the weight came up with. Maybe I should go home, send him an email and see if he can stand an extra $9. If he says he can I'll spend my lunch hour tomorrow standing in line again to mail it."

I think that's a little much to expect even if he paid for the parts. If you would have emailed me to ask if the extra $9 was ok, I'd think you were losing it. I would have done exactly as you did.

Dee Vee, I think others here have said it well. You should be honored for your offer of generosity. I also agree on your belief in a person's word. At the same time, I believe it is wise to only offer out what you can afford to lose.

Sad to see a person give up credibility with a bunch of nice people for $10.

I want one of those spoilers he can ship for $12.

I bet he spends more then $10 bucks on fast food, overpriced coffee and his cell phone bill. I hope he doesn't need help on his car in the future.
