Best Way To Drill Into Newer Paint?

    installing emblems, what’s the best way to drill into existing paint without damagiging the paint? Masking tape and then ?

    You want to use a variable speed drill with a new 1/8in starter bit don't use very much psi let the bit do the work, be generous with the tape and brace your wrist off the panel while you guide the drill

    ...and we OCD types will roll small paintbrush with primer around in hole...

    That's not just for those of us with OCD! I think that it's mandatory to prevent rust. I always try to install and remove all of my trim and emblems before painting. I also prespray the holes with a wax based rustproofing when I install the trim, and then I try to spray some on the back side after installation. Now is that OCD ?
