What is the best center link for my 66 Buick Gransport? Oh an the correct size to fit my original pitman arm? Thank you
I don't know what is the best, but Southwest Speed offers oem quality. Also take a look at Proforged. Here's a 7 page discussion on the Chevelle board to help you decide: http://www.chevelles.com/forums/16-brakes-suspension-steering/393763-66-ss-center-link.html
Thank you very much! Looks like I will need to buy the proforged but my pitman arm is not going to fit it. So I will have to buy the 7/16 pitman arm also. But if I decide to keep my original centerlink is there a rebuild kit for it out there somewhere? An then I would get the K5143 Moog idler arm to fit my original centerlink an keep my original pitman arm.
Rebuilding these isn't common. There is a link in the chevelles.com thread if you want to pursue that. Or check with a local truck or tractor repair facility. Another source mentioned is RareParts, pn RP25795. Nice piece and at the higher end of the price range, $116 from Advance Auto with 20% off discount code. Southwest Speed, $64 on Amazon. Cheap Chinese ones are $45 on eBay, mid range are around $95. Hotchkiss makes a 13/16" one for $185. But our 66's need 7/8". Don't see that on their site. I don't know what the quality or strength differences are. But I like that Proforged adjusted their design for a better fit, make sure it's pn 106-10108, that's the revised one. Sounds like a good choice.
I bought mine from SS396.com. They sell both the 13/16" and 7/8". It's made in Taiwan which nowadays seems like a step up from made in China. Cost is $120. I was able to reuse the factory pitman arm. While I was at it I changed the idler arm and end links with new Moog items.
