ABS? Fiberglass? Anyone ever buy new aftermarket bumper fillers? Fit, shape, finish, cost.... Share your thoughts please.
unfortunatly they all seem to suck compared to the factory ones. i could kick myself for all the sets of rears that i have had off of junk cars that ive gave away for dam near nothing and the new boxed fronts that ive sold so cheap. i had to buy a set of aftermarket rears that one of my friends with a body shop got me. i think they were like $160 for the pair a year or so back. i just havent taken the time to change them out yet. luckly i had one set of nos fronts left to change out. my fronts broke just from getting the car towed, and the rears cracked just sitting there. wtf! lol. ill take some picks of the rears i got and ask him where they came from. there fiberglass and seem a little better them some of the others ive seen.
I know different cars but- We just replaced all of the ones on our '75 Cadillac Eldorado convert and they suck, they didnt fit right and we had to do alot of modifications.
I purchased a set of ABS plastic ones for my 87 Turbo T from Musselmans about 7 years ago. My body guy was impressed with the fit compared to fiberglass ones he has dealt with in the past. He said he always had to do alot of work to make the fiberglass fillers to fit.
Could you cut and bend your own out of sheet stock tin or aluminum? I'm surprised nobody has produced and marketed such a product yet.
I have used the fiberglass ones from Carolina Supply and really like them. If your not happy with the fit at first you can enlongate the holes and make them fit to your liking.
... Steve, the fiberglass break/chips/cracks easily. The rear bumper "will" cut into them with a 5-mph bump into a street lamp while your Stage-1 Regal was pushed backwards (by me when the Holley750's float stranded me & my Daughter till AAA arrived) to the curb, and lightly taps said street lamp. The composite/plastic versions "flex" instead of ... well ... you-know. Just my personal/true experiences. :Smarty:
I've bought the repros from the "Buick Farm" & they were just about a perfect fit with little or no mods nec. just recently for an '83 Riv. conv. They will flex as original also.
