Looking at an Atlas lift from Greg Smith equipment in Jersey 8000# https://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Atlas-Garage-Pro-8-000 Opinions??
I don't know how good those lifts are, but if I were buying a lift, I would be looking for one made in USA. My neighbor bought a imported lift and one of the cylinders leaked from day one. He called the company, I don't recall the brand, but they sent him a seal kit. He can't find any company in the area that will repair that Chinese cylinder. They all say buy a new cylinder. The lift manufacturer won't send him a complete cylinder.
My buddy has 2 of these lifts and has absolutely NO issue with them..I only want to be able to work on my car without laying on the floor..ever again...Plus It would give me more room to bring another car in...lol
do it! you will wonder why you didn't buy one before! my chinese 4 post is over 12 yrs old, no issues, no problems. did have a hyd fluid reservoir crack, ( I bumped it) I got the 4 post, because it doesn't need to be bolted down, and can be rolled out side to do dirty work, I got the extra long, and extra tall, so truck fits on it, and raises up far enough to drive under(if needed) chinese vs american you'd be surprised where alot of the parts for the "American" made ones come from. bend pak, come in on the same boat autolift does!
Pat . I know several people that bought Atlas lifts from Greg Smith . All were well pleased . The added plus is take your trailer down and pick it up for NO TAX in Delaware . I'm only 30 miles from them . I know your about 150 miles or so .
I got Atlas GaragePro 9000 lb one and put it outside (no warranty). It is wide enough for a wide boat trailer or car trailer to pass thru. (specs on site were wrong on width, oddly enough....was wider) I like it....so far. Not sure if it is powder coat like salesman said....paint coming off in a few places that got nicked on install.
Pat, I just bought an atlas 4 post from Greg Smith about a month ago. Ordered on a Thursday afternoon, it was delivered to my work Monday morning. Install was a breeze, Taulb, my old man, and myself had it up in about 4 hours taking our time with plenty of screwing off and beer breaks. So far no complaints here.
I have worked under many lifts through the yrs and the only thing i can say is do your research to make sure the capabilities stated are what they actually are. Some imported lifts will say 7k or 9k but you would be scared to step under them with the deflection and bending of the steel under weight. Mohawk is hands down the best on the market. Way overbuilt and great warranties, but you will pay too.
Kevin puts both of his Challenger's on the top of his and they seem pretty firm..My question is should I bolt it to the floor as it will be put toward the rear of my garage and I don't plan to ever move it. Who knows,Maybe I may put another one in front of it so I can put both of my cars up in the air.
I've a 2 post now and want a 4 post soon. Theres some things ya just cant do on one that you can on the other. And as stated above once you get it you'll never want to lay under a car again.
Bought 2 Atlas 8K's several years ago. Use them mostly as stackers to double my space. I had a controller go bad, tech walked me through diagnosis. Ordered the part and it showed up in about 5 days.
IMHO, 2 post lifts are much more versatile. The 4 post will require you to buy at least one air jack so you can pull wheels etc. Exhaust, brake and suspension work is a pita on a drive on lift. 4 post lifts are great for storage and oil changes, that's about it.
There is one more option. I installed one of the Atlas 9000lb full rise scissor lifts this summer. You have to cut the floor out and pours some cement but for the average person with limited garage space I feel it is the best option. Been using it all the time for just about everything. I have lifted my car trailer up to do the brakes, lawn mower to service, it even doubles as a table in the middle of the floor. Best thing about it is when it is down it doesn't exist!!!! Best investment I have made in years. Initially it is more expensive but all the benefits out way that pretty quick.
I have a 2 post lift - need a 4 post now. Mainly for storage though - running out of room for cars in the garage. You can't beat a 2 post lift for working on stuff and you can't beat a 4 post for space. I got the lift from greg smith - no problems, would recommend.
I will work on getting me one of these as well when I decide.. https://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Atlas-RJ-35-Sliding-Jack
^^^Ill be investing in one of those eventually too. For the short term, 2 of these in conjunction with the included jack tray will get me by.
Here's my 2 cents, I have owned a 4 post and now have a 2 post. With a 4 post anytime you have to remove the tires to work on stuff, it's a pain. You have to jack up the car and put it on jackstands (on the lift). Also the ramps/jacks can get in the way sometimes. But if just want to store a car out of the way, it's great. With a 2 post getting the car lined up right can be a pain, but with enough practice that problem goes away.
I ordered an Eagle lift a while back, had to wait for it to ship from the east When I saw this thread I started thinking WTH happened to that order? So I called and since they are in NC they are dealing with 17" of snow...and the truck is trying to deliver today at their place. So good news the lift is coming my way soon. Now time to make room. I've had good service from these lifts. The first lift I got was a Backyard Buddy and it let me down 1 time with the Stage 1 on it. No damage but that was a lesson to me regarding checking security after lifting.
