It should be an Olds 400G engine which was a big step down from the 65-67 400E Olds engine.

Never heard of a "U" head. I personally don't see the letter code in any of the pics, but certainly shouldn't be a "J" code head.

    Hi,

Neat car, heads should be C if 68 400 or 455, if truly matching numbers it will be a 400 G block

    Regards,

There is no picture of the head code. That little U shaped thing under the 648 is not the code.

My first car or my sisters really was our aunts 68 cutlass s. Creme color w creme buckets n floor shift.
350 w 2 speed trans. Fast and faster, lol.
I owe my sis a car. Was totaled at a red light when some foreign lady crushed right into it w a mid 70s monte and I got pushed into a 70s impala.
Stupid pig asked why I was stopped.
    Oh man I’m still pissed.

The Olds head codes are very plain to see and stand on their own.

Yes i thought 455 was only availible in 69 for hurst models. And it looks great but id also rather spent the 12k instead...bucket seats and a dloor shift cant go wrong

The 455 Buick, 455 Olds, 455 Pontiac, 454 Chevy didnt go in any intermediate until 1970. So it's like matching number, but different.

I get that, but the H/O cars hardly came off the factory line.
