Okay, this Great Pyrannese keeps running away from its owner and comes to my house. The owner leaves it ourt to "protect the chickens". The area is not fenced, the dog gets no attention, or fed regularly, or taken to a vet. My daughter gives it a flea bath, pulls the ticks and feeds it. We have called animal control the last two times who has cited the owner for neglet and no fence. We took the dog to the vet and she is not chipped. In Florida you are supposed to notify the owner within 24 hours and we have done that in the past. Animal control is tired of this and is pretty cool and said "if the dog disappears from your property oh well". I have offerred to buy her but no dice. I would keep her but the owner would see her so I can't. She is about 12-16 months old according to the vet and underweight but otherwise in good health except for earmites. I am going to take her to the vet for that. If anyone lives near Alachua Florida and wants her please come get her, I hate having to give her back. She is real sweet and real shy. Mikey
The Great Pyreness is a special dog. A farm dog that will lay thier life down for their farm and it's inhabitants. Big, bold, smart, loving. They have a bs meter, they can accurately decipher when someone/thing is a threat and gladly act on it. A true best friend. I say you put some money in your neighbors pocket and buy her from him fair and square and explain to him that his chickens will still be protected becasue that dog will still do its job from next door. My dog is mixed with great Pyrenees and a black working class german Sheppard and has been so far the best dog ive ever own and i used to breed boxers for 8 years.
Mikey, you are doing the right thing for that dog, I just hope that the P.O. doesn't get a hair up his ass and try to bring charges against you.
Oh i just reread your post and saw no dice on the buy. Sucks Off topic but your converses are on point!!!!!!!
Owner can't bring charges anymore. Animal control has been called too many times and we keep phone records (screen shots) proving we've called. I will try to buy her again if the owner shows up. She just shows up on our back porch. Mikey
Ship her up here to Ohio. Besides, she's a native of Ohio. Know how I can tell? Has a little "O" under her tail. You ship her here, we'll give her an excellent home.
My Grandparents had a G P, One of the most wonderful dogs in the world. They are gentle giants and want nothing more than to be loved and take care of a family, they are fantastic with children and will guard them with their lives. , she certainly does look small for her age.
Wish I could...we have 3 now (one of which we rescued) and the boss says no more, we're full. Sorry to get your hopes up. If it were up to solely me, we would.
Our "can she stay with you for awhile", now going on two years, dog is half GP and half yellow lab. Looks like a scaled down polar bear. Female and weighs 122#. We also have the neighborhood GP that is about three years, male, and very gentle, almost to the point of being a dunce. Just walks around sniffing and peeing on anything over 1" tall. He is usually in the company of a goat. I would vote for taking the dog, but make sure there's no chip that could lead back. We found a home for a Rottweiler (damn huge dog) that showed up after Katrina. People had her out on a farm, took her to a vet for something and found she was chipped. Vet notified original owners and dog was picked up by them. No problem, just some sad/happy faces.
Darn, darn, darn... Owner saw my daughter with her and took her back. She's comes by 2-4x a month and I'm so tired of her being out running free. Speed limit on our country road is 60 and she's gonna eventually get clobbered. I would love to keep her but the owner is a real poo-poo head. Thanks guys. Mikey
As suggested, call the ASPCA. Tell them the story, show them the phone records and the vet bills. They will picket outside his home, the news crews will show up and "poo-poo head" will be exposed for what he is. Or, next time, get her shipped to Brad. See if you can board her if it takes a couple days. Sooner, the better. I had a similar situation years ago. I stole the dog and brought him to my in-laws farm. Owner knew it but wouldn't confront me. Knew he would be on the receiving end of a "poo poo" kickin'.
Lots of GP found in the country, our friends adopted one, fits right in with their 5 greyhounds'. she thinks she's one now..
Where we buy the horse feed from says they will board her for a few days to buy time. Gotta have someone in place to take her next time. I would be willing to take her half way up to 350-400 miles. The problem with me buying her is he would get another dog and it would end up here too; I can see that happening. Mikey
A possibility is to see if a local Paws for a Cause or any organization that trains service dogs could take her.
