Andy Tantes posted a "FRESHLY POLISHED AND CLEAN" set of SBC MT valve covers for sale about two weeks ago. (he has since deleted the post.)

An old Detective friend is building a 64 Vette Roadster and he was either going to send his 60's style MT's valve covers 'out to be polished OR look for a decent set.. ANDYS appeared to be a decent set, so I jumped in line as a nice surprise to my friend.
I've heard ANDY does a superb polishing job and I know these would look absolutely AWESOME on his vette MOTOR.

I received them about 10 days later and handed my friend the box they arrived in. As we opened the box, IMAGINE MY SURPRISE and total shock  !!!
Ya, these valve covers were shiney, however, the ribbed areas, EVERY CORNER, the MT logo and the "Chevrolet" logo were packed with crud, gobs of polishing goop and junk piled up. (See pix).
I TRIED to dig this cruddy goop off, and this stuff was caked on so thick and those areas were rather obviously NEVER POLISHED.. AT ALL. ever.

I sent a note and closeup pix to Andy, NOT out of ANGER, but simply allowing him an opportunity explain why these looked they way they did and what HE planned to do about it....

andys response was " I NEVER SAID I POLISHED THEM...I BOUGHT THEM THAT WAY'. ??? Really???

Isnt andys main business on this site, to POLISH VALVE COVERS, RIGHT?? Wouldnt YOU agree, you would have thought ANDY POLISHED THESE??? My detective friend and I were EXTREMELY UNHAPPY with Andys response...

I sent Andy another message asking him to either 1). Take them back and give me a full refund 2) accept them back at HIS EXPENSE, POLISH them as he described in his thread as "FRESHLY POLISHED AND CLEAN" and return them to me again at his expense... or 3). I would contact someone local to polish them correctly so my freind could actually use them, and I would send ANDY the receipt and ask to be paid back...

Fair and reasonable options, wouldnt you agree??

andy sent me a reply: 'YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO'.

well. . .feeling totally responsible for the half-polished cruddy condition of these, I drove to a local professional aliminum polisher, mostly for Harley Davidson parts... after looking at them asked me if they were polished by someone with an old shoe polishing/buffing machine??? I was told $35 each to CLEAN these up and polish them correctly.

When I sent a copy of the estimate to andy, his EXACT ugly reply to me was this:

let me a little bit clearer.
stick those valve covers up your ass
you can try that bullSHIPT on somebody else, but im not going for it
now go whine and cry on v8buick, like a little baby

So, that is what I am doing.

I know andy has prolly done some nice work for some of you guys, BUT EVERYONE ELSE BEWARE...

The REAL ANDY TANTS has spoken.

Andy, your FIRST WRONG is: I received the valve covers about 10 DAYS from when I posted I agreed to buy them.. never citing any issues about shipping.... your reply above wasted a lot of time proving shipping... BUT NOTHING about the REAL ISSUES.

ANOTHER WRONG......I bought these for a GOOD FRIEND, too bad you probably do not know what a GOOD FRIEND is... and YOU SENT MY GOOD FRIEND AS YOUR WORDS DESCRIBE FRESHLY POLISHED AND CLEAN ~ ... TOTALLY MISREPRESENTED IN YOUR AD ~ CRUDDY PRODUCT.

THEN, I gave you more than enuf opportunities to fix the mess through personal emails long before you FORCED ME TO post THIS HERE... and just like THIS reply, easy to see instead of trying to resolve the issue, BOTTOM LINE IS ~ you are still in denial you SENT MY CUSTOMER valve covers that are simply NOT SATISFACTORY AT ALL.

even now, a 'SIMPLE SITUATION' as you say, a FAIR and honorable solution would be for YOU to step up and OFFER TO POLISH THESE VALVE COVERS THE WAY YOU DESCRIBED THEM... FRESHLY POLISHED AND CLEAN and move on...

    BUT NO. . ..
ANDY TANTES SENT MY CUSTOMER JUNK and SIMPLY CHOOSES NOT RESOLVE IT!

I CERTAINLY HOPE EVERYONE HERE READS THIS MESSAGE.

ya.. . easy, cheap cop out for you, mr tantes.

YOU could have fixed all this.... but chose not to.

so the show IS OVER for you Andy.

    I am still stuck with paying someone to get these valve covers in the condition YOU advertised;
    FRESHLY POLISHED AND CLEAN...

    Gee. . .thanks for nothing.

Not that it matters, but you mentioned "good friend" a few times, and then called him a "customer". Like I said, doesn't matter, cleaned and polished is cleaned and polished. (?)

Just being devil's advocate here, and I can't tell 100% from the pics, but is that black stuff supposed to be there? like the extruded parts of the valve covers are supposed to be polished while the lower part is blacked out?

picture #5 looks like that might be the case (though not being able to handle them in person I don't know if that black stuff rubs off or not.)

    opposite of this:

NICE RESEARCH...Thank you for pointing that out Bill! :TU: However, in this case, I would THINK, these FRESHLY POLISHED AND CLEAN adjectives that basically sold me in andys description, should either be POLISHED ALL THE WAY or the factory BLACK left alone... not partially polished with black crud in the corners like these from andy.
andys original post shows them from an obviously well planned photo. . . where the crud buildup did NOT show and I naturally ASSUMED they would be 'FRESHLY POLISHED AND CLEAN' as described... :Dou:

IMHO, there was deception in the ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION... FRESHLY POLISHED AND CLEAN. The original photo was nice enuf to make me wanna purchase the product and unfortunately when they arrived here, we were all stunned and quite dumbfounded over the crudy corners and buildup of junk! :af: Why did the polisher NOT FINISH THE JOB of polishing??? :Do No:

SO, I gave andy tantes plenty of opportunity to make these right without yelling, screaming or drama... I just wanted resolve. I have copies of all the emails and corrospondence.

andy thought a better idea was to tell me where to stick them, which by the looks of them, is where andy originally pulled them out from his own personal anal cavity before sending them to me. :eek2:

I am having these polished at my expense and Im sure they will look AWESOME when they are finally FRESHLY POLISHED AND CLEAN...

Im going to chime in here because Andy has polished two sets of covers for me.

First, on both sets of covers, there was some small amount of gray goop in some of the corners on both sets of covers I received. Was it a big deal? No way. Why? Because I knew what they looked like before I sent them. They were a mess and I know how much work and effort had to go into them. Does it wipe right off? Sure does. For the money he charges (which is very reasonable IMO), and for the lightning fast turnaround, I have zero complaints. Shop around, you cant beat his service. Andy did a fine job for me on both set of covers.

It looks like the covers need a bit of fine detailing, but gimme a break. If I know Andy's work, they look like jewelry. Clean em up a little with a toothbrush and some hot water.

Hard to say without seeing the "original for sale post"..But if my business (or side hustle) were polishing parts, I would have definitely pointed out that these were not done by me (not my quality of work)..I have seen Andy's work (looks top notch)..So its more a matter of how much he sold them for (discounted price for less polishing)..Seems like a disappointing deal indeed for Wheelz (thinking he was getting freshly polished by Andy)..If your line of work is polishing, but your just selling something (not done by you, seems you say that in the ad)..So without seeing the original ad, makes it hard to judge..If he (Andy) did sell as FRESHLY POLISHED (1 would assume he did em)...I don't believe its of no matter if the buyer (Wheelz) was flipping them for profit or giving them away? Whatever the buyer does with his parts is his choice..If I were polishing or any services for profit, I would prefer a buyer that's reselling my parts so he will get more from me..I have bought some parts that didn't come as described (some peoples version of nice differs) I just made the best of it, wouldn't deal with them anymore (or know what to expect) ..anyways just my .02..Hope you fellas work through this and don't turn a misdemeanor into a felony:laugh:

Guys. . . this could go on & on & on but let me say while I DO appreciate everyones input and opinion here, SOME of you are totally missing the point.

I gave andy many opportunities to respond favorably and fix the cruddy buildup in the corners issue.
The rotten attitude, his lack of taking any responsibility and the misleading information in his original description 'FRESHLY POLISHED AND CLEAN' is what lead me to post this thread.

I thought, this BUYER SELLER FEEDBACK Section was intended to post KUDOS when deserved, as equally NEGATIVE FEEDBACK when deserved as well. THUS is the case here with andy.

    Unhappy customer. Negative feedback. Simple.

Jason, I am no dummy when it comes to detailing... and I know, toothpaste, toothbrush and water WILL NOT fix these... but a professional polishing will, and that is where they are now...

apparently not so simple as you keep posting

this is just my opinion but.......
you stated your not happy and you are warning others not to do business with
the other person ..............or to be careful when doing so........

if so you accomplished your task so let it go..............

  19. what does the Detective friend have to do with this and why keep mentioning him and the fact that he is a detective? he didn't buy them and had no part of the transaction so he has ZERO relevance. would it have been mentioned if said friend were a septic tank technician.. i doubt it. I'd assume this is to garner more sympathy for your issue and make yourself appear saintly.

I'd still buy from Andy and not have a second thought about it.. just sayin.

  20. BUICKRAT

    BUICKRAT Got any treats?

Andy, all the pics I have seen of your work look stunning. I too, would have expected them to be done by you. All your previous sales and advertising have pertained to pieces done by you, (or so we were led to believe).

To sell a knock-off to a person that is expecting your work is called a bait and switch. Sure, you wont prove it in a court ,but that's what it is. You advertise a polishing process that is very good, so that is what your customers expect. Same as they go to their favorite restaurant and expect the steak they always get, or have seen advertised.

Old saying in a business owners world- "A customers perception is a merchants reality"

To tell some one to stick it is unacceptable. Dude, you had an unhappy customer. Make it right. Is it really worth all this drama?

    Good luck, guys!
