Good morning all. I've got a crazy idea brewing in my head, and I'm curious what the coolant flow pattern was through the stock manifold. I see the passages on the heads and I'm sure they meet up with passages at the front and back of the block, and I also see the thermostat, etc. I suppose I could unbolt the intake off the motor in my garage, but that's a bit involved. So, what I'm asking is: Does anyone have a diagram or cutaway view showing the intake coolant passages and where they go? Also, when one moves to an aftermarket manifold, are all the same coolant passages used, or do some tend to get blocked off? Thanks! - Freed
I spent about 20 minutes going through a 71 chassis manual I found linked here: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?223630-1971-thru-73-Buick-Library-links Neat stuff, but I couldn't quite find what I'm looking for.
Does this help? http://home.comcast.net/~shinzan/coolant.jpg And yes, aftermarket manifolds mate up to the production coolant ports. Devon
I did see a similar pic to that, but it was hard to see anything in it, so thank you for that. So from the picture, there's basically a coolant tube going across the front side of the intake, and the thermostat housing sits in the middle of it? Is there basically a similar tube going across the back of the engine? Thanks in advance! - Freed
