Ok guys, what the right number for a 70 fuel tank? Im tired of looking at my dented fuel tank. I did a search and someone mentioned a GM34T as the correct one which is a Monte Carlo tank. Spectra lists a GM34B as the correct number, while others have suggested a 69 tank which has a slightly shorter filler neck.

S what number do I order? and is the filler neck exactly as the original as far as length and contour?

I played this game a while back and could not get a correct 1970 GS/Skylark fuel tank. My car has the California emissions and needs a special tank, but no one makes one. I ended up getting the Year one tank and having the filler neck swapped from my old tank to the new one. This was about a year ago so maybe there is a correct one available now...

What are the differences between the tanks? I have a 72 donor with a new tank, have a 70 project. Will the tanks swap?

Jim, the 71 tank has a different filler neck than a 70. The difference is in the rear bumpers. 71 also has the accomodations for the vapor return standpipe.

Rock Auto and Spectra both claim GM34B is the number. What I want to know is the differences between a GM34B and a GM34T. Why are some recommending the T instead of the B? No one seems to list filler neck lengths.

    J,

I'm pretty sure the "correct" tank for a 70 is a 34-A, but it doesn't come with a filler neck so you will have to re-use your original. It sucks, but I've done it twice with no problems.

Tamraz on ebay is the cheapest at $109 plus shipping, and these are the good ones made in Canada. I bought both of mine from them and had no problems at all. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970...tZVintageQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Duane told me that someone is now making them in stainless but I don't have any info on those.

I thought about that James, but my original filler neck has some damage on it, so I was hoping I could get a complete tank. Im looking forward to this job. Its a longshot but the build sheet might still up there.

I might call Spectra on Monday and see if they have filler neck lengths on these and what the exact differences are.

Does anyone know the correct length of a 70 filler neck offhand? I seem to recall 12"

Seems like Rich is the only one that's use the New "T" model, over the B without the neck. I have to call them tomorrow anyways. See what I can find out.

PS tamraz is $144.95 on the B, rockauto with discount is $107.00

DL-Maybe the "T" was recommended when the fillers werent available? :Do No:

Thanks for the info Roberta! Rock's was the Spectra one? Spectra being the preffered brand on these right?

    Jason,

I have an excellent used 70 filler neck if you need it. I replaced the tank in a 70 Skylark with a 69 tank a few years ago and had the filler neck removed before I threw out the old tank. PM me if interested.

The first tank on the list (for 1970) is a GM34B for $112.89
-click on the... "more info..." and it says... "INCLUDES FILLER TUBE and 2 VENTS".

    Spectra #'s for GS455

    1971 -GM34H....with filler neck and 3 vents

Just wanted to update this thread. I finally installed the GM34B tank in my 70 and the filler neck is a hair too long! With the cap installed, the tab on the cap comes in contact with the plate bracket. If it were a 1/2" to 3/4" shorter, it would be perfect. So there you have it.

I read that the tank for the 69's has a filler neck thats 3/4" shorter. maybe that was the one I should of gotten?

Scott used the 69s with good results. But the tank contour is not identical to a 70.

    Hi Jason,
Sorry I didnt see this thread when it came out because I swapped my tank out in December and yes I knew all this information and my turned out the same with the cap just hitting the license plate bracket. Its in now and its staying this way too lol

It looks like they allso soldered the piece the gas cap twists onto 90 degrees off. So instead of the tabs on the cap being at 9 and 3, theyre at 12 and 6 :spank: Oh well, I was debating on removing it and fixing it, but too late. I might buy another tank in the future to correct the situation

I believe mine are at 12 and 6 as well but will double check.
