I came across this You tube vid showing a 68 Wildcat with air bags. I was wondering how converting the car to bags would affect the handling of the car. It handles like a worn out 68 Wildcat at the moment anyway. Would I have to do it in conjunction with changing the front control arms to a tubular set up? Any major mods in the back other than the air bag install? Are those noises from the air releasing and pumping up normal?
Nobody makes tubular front end for the wildcat and no other gm will fit. Tubular rear arms are available from ride tech. I don't see why the car wouldn't ride good on air, new vehicles are using air to counteract vehicle loading.
Gary -- I suspect a fresh set of shocks, some fresh rubber bits and some poly sway bushings would get you a long way...but if you go to bags -- I want to know how it works out..
If you do air bags do front and back don't get to crazy on switch's Air bags all the way up is a super bouncing ride ..other than that it's good .. Simple set up and remember the longer the car the longer it looks lowered Here is my buddy's wildcat
I did the same to my 67 skylark. It is so much stiffer than the stock suspension. It's not horrible. It's not floaty. It's firm. It doesn't suck. However, if i were to do it again, i would probably start with coilovers and go from there.
Thanks everyone for your opinions. I have new shocks in the rear, but the front aren't from this century. As it is, it does the speed bumps we have around here with ease. I'm surprised to learn there is nothing in the way of a tubular front end components for the Wildcat. Is the whole front end Wildcat/Electra specific? Nothing changes out from any other G.M. or aftermarket product?
