I pulled the motor apart today to change the rear main. I was not happy with what i found inside. I had one rod bearing that could pass as a bearing. The mains were good. The cam bearings were there when i started the season but left somewhere between then and now. Three cracked pistons and one stress fracture on a rod and here i am

The bearings were all performance from TA. All the clearances checked out. On the tight side but still okay. I don't know what happened but the car ran all year.

Now time for the rebuild and probably a year away from the track due to expense.

    Thanks

Ouch. Maybe oil starvation at higher rpm, or maybe high oil temps. Did you do all the oil mods?

I didn't do any of the mods. It was basically a stock motor so i thought that i could get by on it. I knew that if you upgrade anything you need to do the mods. As far as oil starvation, i watch that gauge like a hawk so i know for sure that there wasn't a drop in pressure.

    Thanks

Hmmm, temps were OK? Nothing over 210*?

Could of been a lot worse like kicking out a rod through the block, then the entire engine is about junk. Caught it in time will save yuou money in the end. PLus you may want to upgrade the performance and correct any oiling problems that you might have. Take your time with the rebuild and ask and research your questions.

Think of it being the glass that is half full, not half empty.

Oil temp at the top was usually pretty good. I can't recall the oil temp going over 180.

I plan on taking the time on the next one. This one was just laying around out of a rusted out electra so i put it in. The motor had 140,000 plus one year of racing before i put the new bearings and stuff in it. I guess i was lucky to have it last as long as it did. The next one will be a pounder though

    Thanks
    Dustin
