Can I get the method of decoding Carb dates so I can decode the following dates?

    MD 2589
    MD 2969
    MD 1509
    CKF 1958

    Thanks

I believe the 9 is 1969 for 3 of them and the 8 is 1968. The first 3 digit are the number of days into the respective year.

So what would a code of LK 0150 be? The 15 day of 1970?

You are correct "0150" would be the 15th day of 1970, or January 15, 1970. This would be the date the carb was assembled.

OK! what does the two letters like MD or LK stand for?

They are application codes and are associated with the different part numbers, like 7040246, etc.

PS. Not all carbs have them.

Another question, Where is the date code located? I have an original carb with the correct number, but can't find a build date. Of course the carb has not been cleaned up yet.

    Thanks,

    Rich

I know, it goes with the rest of my car :Brow:

But this is where the date code would be, if it had one?

    Thanks,

    Rich

Most 70 and up carbs have the date code right under the part # but the part # on your carb looks bigger and it would not fit.

    Hey BigNasty,

I did not list the part numbers of the carbs just the dates because that is all I needed. However, just having the date causes some confusion so here are the part numbers for the listed dates.

    MD2589 (9/15/69) #7040240 - 1970 Buick 455 AT
    MD2969 (10/23/69 #7040240 - 1970 Buick 455 AT
    MD1509 (5/30/79) #7041242 - 1971 Buick 455 AT Stage 1 **
    CKF1958 (7/14/78#17059543 - 1979 Buick 3.8 Turbo

** The stage 1 is supposed to be a replacement carb for the 1971 455 Stage 1 manufactured on the 150th day of 1979 (May 30, 1979) rather than 1969.

I hope this helps clarify and oes not confuse.

    George
