Any opinions (pro or con) on using the Holley 670 Street Avenger to replace my stock rebuilt Qjet on my 71 350 which is way to fickle for me. My gear head buddy has a passion for the 670 Holley saying it is much more reliable than the Qjet which he rebuilt. Found a site where they sell the 670 rebuilt for like $250 addressing the start off / idle issues found in the off the shelf Holley.
Ive heard some good stuff on the street avengers but cant speak from personal experience. However I will caution you that a 670 may be a little small. The stock qjets on these motors were 750s as buick v8s have the tendency to like more carb than say a smallblock chevy would. I can attest to that as my buddy put a 600 on his stock internal sbb 350 and it was sluggish. We just swapped it out for a 750 and it came alive.
" My gear head buddy has a passion for the 670 Holley saying it is much more reliable than the Qjet which he rebuilt." Time to find a new Q-jet "builder". Correctly prepared, the stock factory Q-jet will outrun the Holley Street Avenger at every level. To date, my 1977 Q-jet has outran, dyno and at the track, every Holley or Holley clone we've tested against it, which included a 4781-2 850DP, HP950 (custom tuned), and an 850 Demon. The dyno shop I use hates my ugly Q-jet, and every time I dyno there they throw something on there they've conjurred up to outrun it, it's became quite a challenge for them!.....Cliff
