I was thinking about the colors I see most often on Gran Sports.....It seems blue, white and red are pretty common on the 66's. I see a lot of red, cream, green and blue 70-72's. They had a lot more colors that you just don't see. Who here has the rarest color? Please post a pic!!!!! I know I haven't seen another shadow turquoise 66 like my convertible. It is a beautiful teal color, that I didn't know they offered till I bought it. Dan
Am I cheating? Dan, When you say "factory," does that mean "applied at the factory," or "offered on the order form"? If it's "applied at the factory," I'll add my GS to your thread, as I've never seen another GS come from the factory in Mille Miglia Red, which was a Corvette color in '72 (and other years). I've heard there were quite a few one-off colors applied at the Fremont plant, where mine was assembled; but I haven't seen any others first-hand. The build sheet gives the paint code and name, and actually instructs the workers to include a quart of paint with the car in the trunk! So maybe this is "cheating"? BTW, my avatar shows the current color, which was a repaint (before I owned the car). Here is a 72 Mille Miglia Corvette I snapped in Florida last Spring. It was a beautiful red, I must admit....
Rare Color My first Buick was a 1970 Buick GS Stage-1. The color was Fire Glow Orange which was a color offered in 1969 but a dealer special ordered it for a 1970 car. It is a metalic flake burnt orange. This car also had a saddle brown interior and vinyl top. It was a nice car.
My 1970 GS Stage 1 is Titian Red, a Riv only color, with pearl white interior and white vinyl top. Will post a pic tomorrow.
Mark, I have seen that color on a fender only. I was wondering what the color was. Kinda has a copperish red look?
My brother's old 70 GS455 was Azure Blue (robin's egg blue). Also a Riviera color. The car was from the Fremont plant as well. with some help on this BB I also found it came with a 3.23 non-posi.
Man, these are some colors I have never seen on a GS. I was thinking more the colors that they offered , but no one seemed to order. But I hadn't considered the extra cost "option." I wonder what that does to the car's value. That burnt orange should have been offered in '70. How does Titian Red differ from Fire red? People say they hate green, but the GS in Lime Green grabs your eyeballs and yanks hard! There was a guy trying to sell a GS455 convertible on ebay that was a Cadillac metallic pink(not my color). Then there's the '70 Stage convertible that came Basic Hemi Orange. Is that car also the only '70 Stage 1 not built in Flint, or is my memory fading?
Maybe this will be better? It came with a white vinyl top, and pearl interior, is a column shift, split bench, non-air car.
supposed I don't think its rare.. but you said cream was the common color for 70 mine is supposed to have a pearl white interior (buckets even) it also had a brown floor. no pics though.
Horse of a different color! No it wasn't factory but you should have seen the 70 Stage 1 convertible Scott Lawing owned in the 1980's (Carolina Chapter). The previous owner had it painted........I am NOT kidding..........Mopar Lime Light green!!!! GAG!!! :jd: I love that color on a Mopar but a Buick with pearl interior just didn't get it. He covered it up with 2 car covers and did not touch the car and doubled his money about ten years later. If it had been me I would have stripped it to the metal, repainted, removed everything and replated or polished it and made a "cool 5 thousand dollar LOSS" ou:
Dan, here is that GS that was on ebay in the caddy color. Chateau Mauve Firemist was the actual name of the color.
mine is probably not rare but I don't see too many like it. It is Antique Gold with a white vinyl top and white bucket seat interior. It also has the deluxe interior (woodgrain w/ carpeted lower door panels). I am the second owner and I do know that is was special ordered by the original. He ordered it with power windows and power door locks and a number of other options. He was about 60 when he ordered it and I ended up buying it from his widow right after he died. It still had stickers in the trunk from every set of tires ever put on it and a gaggle of receipts from over the years. The car was pretty much untouched except for normal maintenance items. It still had the original shocks!(and drove like it) Brian
Thanks Chris, That is a beautiful car, but I think the color looks better on a Caddie. That Titian red is beautiful. A friend of mine in college had a 71 GS in gold that was just gorgeous. I don't know what the name of the color was, but it was striking. I know some will kick me for this, but I think the GSX looks better in white. I have never liked yellow cars, and although I know Buick used yellow to get attention, the white cars have a more formal and menacing appearance. Buicks before 1970 had always gotten their attention with looks and power, not with blaring colors.
My 70 GS convert. is burnished saddle (ie brown) with a pearl white bucket interior, black carpet, and originally a white top. Although top is now black.
Burnished saddle....... My 66 auto conv. is burnished saddle, and it's a beautiful warm gold color. Did they change the color to brown in '70?
