    Hi Mark,

How was the trip to Atlanta after BG? It was great to meet you (and your Dad?) at the Nats. :TU:

The Apollo White GSX looks pretty nice in the pics. Do you know if it's a real X or if it has any documentation? I read the thread on Yenko.net and was wondering what you found out (if anything). Is the car in the GSX registry?

    Have a great weekend.:beers2:

Well according to the site, it is Sloan documented.

Thanks, but the Sloan Museum does not have any information on any of the 678 GSX's built for the 1970 model year, but Wayne Roberts does. That's why I asked Mark what he found out (if anything).

    James,

My dad and I really enjoyed Atlanta. The GSX took second in class. We also took the GSX out on Road Atlanta for a couple "parade" laps. At one point we were doing 100+ down the long straight. Also lots of other cool stuff to do and the trip home was uneventful. Hopefully you guys made it back to Texas in good shape. It was nice meeting and talking to you. Your car is awesome.

I did speak to the folks at Nicky and they indicated that it is a real GSX and they have the GSX historic society information (Sloan?). The car came from Texas orginally where it spent a great deal of its time. It was restored in the 80's if I remember correctly. I do not belive it is a Stage-1 car and it does not have the orginal drivertrain. It does have the original interior and sheetmetal and is a solid car from what they told me.

I have asked for a copy of the paperwork to verify the car is real before I would go and look at the car. I have not recieved it to date. I will let you know if or when I get it.

He did mention it was in car craft magazine in the 80's.

If that car is the real deal and has a/c, that's a bargain price compared to what some have been selling for recently.

Congrats, Mark! Sounds like you guys had a great week of Buick activities. We ended up staying until 3pm watching the drag racing Saturday and then drove home, which was a long trip that ended at 4am. It was definitely worth it, and will do it again in 6 weeks up to the BPG event in Columbus.

The GS and GSX Historical Society is the documentation service that Wayne Roberts provides on all 1970 model cars with the VIN #'s higher than 193560. He will decode the cars and provide you with several Power Point type color sheets of information, including the options, invoice date and price, dealer # and name, and what # GSX it is out of the 678 (for example, mine is # 362). I attached a copy of Jason Cooks 70 Stage 1 information he posted on the board when he got it from Wayne (thanks Jason - hope you don't mind!).

The Sloan Museum can document the first half of the 1970 year models (which includes all cars with VIN #'s lower than 193560) and all 1972 models. It will include the same information that Wayne has, but it will only be a list of the sales codes, and a blank order form with the codes circled or highlighted.

If only we could locate the 1971 Buick microfilm, that would cover each year, and everyone could then document and build their cars the way they were originally made, and I could start on my 71 Platinum Mist GSX!!!:3gears:

This is Janelle McHam's former "X" The Car was featured in the May 1992 issue of Muscle Car Review. It was a second place winner at the Buick Nationals back in 1987 and 1989.

I have an original build/broadcast sheet, which was found in the car.

It is also listed in the Wayne Roberts Buick GSX registry/Historical Society as the 373 GSX built in 1970.

    The engine is NOM.

I cannot clearly see the body numbers. Does the one on the GSX Historic Document match the one on the Build Sheet?

The Wayne Roberts Document and the trim Tag show Body #293944

The Body number on the Build sheet looks like #233994

    VIN:293153

I will check the registry when I get home and see if you have the build sheet for another car in the registry. That owner would be really happy if there was a 10 10 GSX with that body number. Then again it might be a typo.

I should be able to get back with you next week.

    Thanks for the response.

    Mark,
It is a strange situation. How many Apollo White Non Stage 4 speeds with A/C were produced? If it is another GSX, they would both have identical options.

Would it be common for such a large spread of body numbers for cars built within a week or two of each other? 293944 vs 233994. That would be 59,950 units.

Both previous owners felt that it was a factory typo on the build sheet. I have seen single digit typos on Chevelle build sheets in the past, but never a two digit typo.

Please let me know what you come up with?

Probably a typo. It's real. I painted it in the 80's when Janelle owned it. I pulled the broadcast sheet out of the left pillar post. Fondly remember going street racing in it in Shreveport, LA. I know most of the back round on the car if anyone is interested.

Does it idle a little rough? Should, it has a stage 2 cam in it!!

    Bob,
Small world. The car still has your paint Job on it. The car now shows 99k miles. The engine seems to run and idle as stock?

Dan the fellow who purchased the car from Janelle many years ago, few out to Texas and drove it back here to Chicago without incident.

I checked the registry and there is no such car with that body number on the sheet. I imagine it is a typo as indicated.

    Mark,
What is the numerically highest GSX body number/trim tag date which you have? That should shed some light on the topic?

This car has the highest body number. It looks like from the registry and the GSX # that it is more likely 233944. The next highest body number is 285??? and that if GSX #677.

What is the three digit code showing on the body tag at the bottom? It will indicate what month and week the body was built? that would also help. If it is 04C then it is most likely 233944 or something like that.

The 9 and 3 could look very similar on the microfilm and on the body tag if they are not extremely clear. That would be a question for Wayne.

There are two other cars close to the 233944 number.

The build date on the trim tag is 04C and the body Number on the tag is 233994, which does match the build sheet.

Looks like Wayne may have missread or transposed a couple of numbers. Either that or the Microfiche may have a mistake.
