I just bought a 2001 Chevy LQ4 6.0L w 4L80E & entire harness & accessories. Going to slam it down in between the wells of the 66 Skylark. I am wanting to stick with the EFI stuff.

Anyone doing this-done it-seen it or know where to get the info-guidance-instructions for this "hybrid" project :)

    Thanks ALL JT

    Here you go:

I know a guy who did the same swap on a 66 Chevelle and what he did is moved the engine and trans both forward 2" which gave the trans enough room to fit without modifying the trans tunnel... Sure this is not the best for weight distribution however better than hacking up the car to get the 4L80E to fit. Plus the engine was much lighter than his old all iron 454.

Google: Chevelle ls swap and you will find lots of good info... You can even buy kits with headers, engine mounts, etc.

Considering that the 4L80e is heavier and the LQ4 is much lighter (about 460lbs), I'd think weight distribution should still be just fine.

Just make sure you match your engine mounts with the headers you use. Hedmann probably has the best selection, but they may hang a bit lower than the Hookers or Edelbrock headers.

I see these swaps all over but I am not seeing a lot is seems that guys are keep ALL the EFI & electronics stuff. The swaps are still using carbs or efi carbs or such.

I want to do the WHOLE swap. keep ALL the EFI stufff & have my "stock" gauges in the dash. Anyone know where to look or go for this info????

You can keep the factory computer for both the trans and engine. What I would do is find a donor vehicle that had a LS engine and 4L80E and take the whole wiring harness. It would likely be less work to install after-market gauges instead of re-using the old ones but that is up to you. I have a alum plate in the stock dash with custom gauges. After you get it all done it should work just fine if you have the right computer for the engine. If you make mods to the engine you can take the car to a tuner and they can make the computer work well with the combo.

    This is a good book:

I just ordered these two books:
    1. Chevy LS Engine Conversion Handbook HP1566
    2. GM LS-Series Engines: The Complete Swap Manual (Motorbooks Workshop)

Do you mean the under dash wiring harness as well? Can yiou not mate up the stock 66 gauges ?
