When I was a kid I used to be glued to the TV saturday mornings. Cool stuff like the Road Runner and Bugs Bunny. I grew up with Fat Albert! He was the coolest! Anyway, There used to be a live action show ( as opposed to a cartoon ) called " Jason of star command". Absolutley knowbody I talk to remembers this show. Tell me I'm not nuts. The hero was Jason, there was a kid named Loki, and lastly, the commander was blue. Someone's got to remember this. I'm guessing this would have been around 1979?
Well Dan, I gotta tell ya,in '79 I was going on 30 but I grew up on Saturday morning TV also.We had "Fury",SkyKing","Tarzan",Sandy Becker with either "Just forFun"and "Wonderama","Howdy Dowdy"and "Captain Kangaroo" for cartoons, we had "MightyMouse","Heckle and Jeckle" ,"WoodyWoodpecker"and of course "Popeye" not to mention SoupySales,Fran n Ollie,RoodieKazoodie and the Mickey Mouse club,my older brother and I would watch TV all morning long especially on a rainy day.I can still remember the very first timeDisneyland was gonna be broadcast for the first time in COLOR,my parents let us go to a neighbors house to watch it,along with all the other kids on the block, because they were the only ones with one of those NEW color TVs:Smarty:
I loved Saturday morning cartoons!!! And yes it ALL sucks now. what a shame. I miss seeing Wile E. Coyote, Super Genieus(sp?) getting mashed by rocks.
Well, I was 19 in '79, so I didn't watch many cartoons at that age:grin: However, I beg to differ on the quality of SOME of today's Saturday morning fare. We don't have any trouble at all finding decent stuff for our 5-yr old to watch. You just have to search around a little, and there are shows that actually seem to make some sense and attempt to teach kids a few things, and at the same time entertain them. Yes these are aimed at maybe 4-6 yr olds, and I think it is worse for programming aimed at 7-9 yr old kids. But I'll still take Tweety and Sylvester any day over the new stuff! :TU:
I remember Johnny Socko and his Flying Robot, Ultraman, Speed Racer back in the 60's, and Saturday morning with Fat Albert, Bugs Bunny, Road Runner, Space Ghost, etc. I was 17 in 1979, so a little past my "prime" cartoon watching.
I shake my head in disbelief at some of the shows my son is into. So much of it is mindless tripe! There are a few that are ok like Johnny Bravo and such, that actually use a little wit. But most of it is crap imported from Japan. (Pokemon etc.) I wonder if an American animator would get away with drawing the human characters with thin slanted eyes? Like they draw caucasians with HUGE blue eyes.uzzled: Sorry, I digressed, but that bothers me. Do we really look like Hummel figurines? On a lighter note, How about Romper room? It used to creep me out as a child when, at the end of the show she would look into that looking glass and said she saw us kids sitting at home. "I see johnny, and billy, and on and on. :ball:  Fortunately for me, Dale is not a common name. Gimme the Roadrunner anyday! "Wile E Coyote... Genius!"
The internet is a wonderful thing. Below is a link to the Internet movie database and should take you that Jason show. Never heard of it myself, but I am with Kenny on this. :Brow: Have been around a while too. Ok Doug, I know....... Mark http://us.imdb.com/Title?0078631
I REMEMBER DAN. HOW ABOUT SPEED RACER?OR HOW ABOUT TRYING TO PULL THE ARMS OFF OF STRETCH ARMSTRONG THE 70'S WHAT A INTERESTING TIME TO BE A KID
Man, nobody remembers Johnny Quest? His dog Bandit? Well I think Haji(?) is still hold up in Iraq.
I always enjoyed watching Fockorn Legcorn. Some of the gags and contrapsions he came up with, always kept me watching. Wile Coyote was also good too. John
HEY HEY HEY....it's FFFFAT ALBERT Now it's sponge Bob square pants:jd: And instead of Saturday, it's 24 hrs a day.....ou:  ou:
No one has mentioned a couple of my faves yet. I liked Tom Slick, a character on George of the Jungle. He was always dueling the evil Baron Otto Matic. I also loved Fireball XL-5 (I had the lunch box) a puppet show like Thunderbirds. Another one of the puppet deals was Supercar. No one watched Felix the cat? Great characters like the Master Cylinder, Vavoom and Joe Jitsu. And I still love Droopy, one of the greats. Mark
Rocko's Modern Life was my an awesome show. i'd still watch it if it was on, heh. unfortunately nick shows nothing but crap now...:ball:
Made in The 80's I think Sat. morning TV started going down the toilet after the 80's. I loved Sat. morning's back then.. when I woke up early enough.. He- Man She-ra... transformers... thunder cats.. anyone remember You Can't Do That On Television or David the Gnome? Maaaaan those were tha days!!!!:TU:
