Night Under Fire at Norwalk Raceway (now named Summit Motorsports Park) is one of the best days/nights of drag racing on the planet - anyone going to be there racing? It's August 15. Well worth a long drive.

For those who haven't been there, it's a full day of all classes of cars, including top fuel dragsters, Funny Cars and Bob Motz's jet powered Kenworth. Then after the racing's done they have the best fireworks I've ever seen, followed by muscle car racing all night long until 8 or 9 am. Those still awake get a free breakfast in the morning.

Check out Bob Motz burning down the billboard with his jet dragster 2 years ago: https://youtu.be/ze15XNTUT58

Look for me and my wife on the Motz side right at the Christmas tree. My older son's in a wheelchair and we have the best seats in the place right at the bottom of the steps in the Motz section.

Just back a few hours ago from Night Under Fire at Norwalk - still a great day's racing, but they've done away with the night-long racing after the fireworks :-( ... I always enjoyed staying up until 4am or so for that. Bill Bader Jr. has shaved his head for some reason and John Force had trouble putting a sentence together ... the first time I've seen that happen! The 2-pass fly-over at the start of the activities by a group of 4 single-prop planes in formation was cool ... I've gotten there late in the past few years and missed seeing the opening. The girl singing the National Anthem was fantastic, one of the best I've heard; strong voice and she sang it correctly rather than trying to impress everyone with "oooh, look at me" embellishments. The Bader family always puts on such a great show, but this year's activities seemed drawn-out to me for some reason... the parade of all the cars prior to racing was too long. Great weather; 90 degrees and mostly sun all day with a few clouds now and then. No wrecks except for one guy who brushed the wall and lost a door, which flew up into the air. Two huge monster trucks raced a 1/4 mile and when one tried to top 100mph (in a separate event) he had a catastrophic drive line failure at about 1000 feet that was entertaining as far as sparks flying. Not the best "Night Under Fire" I've been to, but still well worth the price of admission.

Oh yeah, check out the Shockwave Jet Semi tearing up the asphalt (literally) at Summit Motorsports Park last night. It blew asphalt chunks into and under the billboard - the sidewalk behind the billboard was covered in asphalt chunks.
