Hello there, I am new to V8buick but I have had a lot of help from guys on this website. One of them suggested I create a thread stating my location and a link to the thread I created where they helped me through the steps in figuring out what was wrong with my car. I am stuck now I have no clue what’s wrong with it now but if there is someone out there that is experienced I would definitely appreciate the help. Thank you! http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/car-will-not-start-please-help.354903/
Here is Jimmy's thread, it is long, but it will bring you up to date, http://v8buick.com/index.php?threads/car-will-not-start-please-help.354903/ With Jimmy being in TA's backyard, I have to believe there is help locally. If I lived close, I'd be there.
Long story short, I have a brand new timing set that I made sure was installed correctly with the timing marks on each gear facing each other. I have a brand new points distributor, new ignition coil, cap and rotor. New spark plugs and wires and a new fuel pump. I have verified that everything is hooked up correctly. My issue started a long time ago when she shut down all of a sudden a year ago and I found out my rotor wasn’t rotating when I cranked. It took me awhile to find that out. After I replaced it she ran for about 3 days and then she shut off again in the middle of the road I noticed the distributor wire was cracked and grounding to the housing so I took it back and got a new one. She started up again and as I drove about a mile down the road I came out of a red light and stepped on the gas a little bit and she started backfiring and running horribly so I shut her off. Tried messing with the dizzy and rotating it a bit and then she never turned back on. This is when I got a brand new gear and chain. I’ve tried turning her on a few times after but no go.
Your first problem it that you car is a woman. It's either a "she" or a "her".. Starting fluid answers a lot of questions in a hurry.
