I figured you guys would be the best place to start, anyone running fuel injection? Looking to see what's out there on Buicks that I haven't seen on something else possibly. I'm not looking for any of the holley projection type stuff, real stand alone fuel injection with actual injectors, no TBI's cause I'm looking to go with a unique forced induction set-up. Thanks for any help.
Several guys on this board are running Port Fuel Injection. Check out http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1767 to see a pic of one setup that 'was' in the works. You should have PLENTY of good suggestions as to which setup to run, along with several different places to get your intake converted at.:bglasses:
Me me me!!! Had port FI for about 2 years now. I drive my car every day, so gas mileage and drivability are very important. If it was race-only, a carb is a much cheaper way to go. Basically, my setup is: 36# injectors 1000 CFM Throttle Body 45 PSI dual fuel pumps FAST controller (SpeedPro back then) with Wide Band Oxygen Sensor Mallory Dist with MSD 6AL (all advance mechanisms locked out) I am trying for a car that gets 20 MPG, 10's in the 1/4 mile, and daily driven- all without ANY changes (no slicks, no race fuel, etc.). It's not gonna be easy, but so far I've mustered an 11.6 @ 118, and 19.6 MPG. I've got a few things up my sleeve, we'll see what happens. I have a picture somewhere of my intake manifold, I'll try to post it if I can find it. -Bob Cunningham bobc@gnttype.org
:jd: OMG....I had to look twice to see if you were running a 350, that's amazing with a 455. Just goes to show that the old Buicks aren't as bad as people think! Fuel efficiency and power along with daily driving reliability, unreal. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor to the 10's and 20 mpg. Thanks for the info and links on the EFI guys, that wildcat intake looks great. Everyone here seems to be very open with the info, a big change from some of the other sites I frequent where people want to keep everything to themselves and just tell you how much better their set-up is. Well, I think that gives me enough to wet my appetite for now, thanks again.
That's what this board is all about! It is kind of refreshing...now that you mention it! I think most of us realize the 'big picture' - if we help you (or anyone else) make your (their) Buick perform better, our Buicks are looked at in a better light!!:bglasses: Just look at the results of some of the Pure Stock or Stock Appearing classes - our Buicks are at or towards the top of 'the heap'. Same goes for the value of a well restored GS when it goes to sell - the good ones are bringing a 'pretty penny'.:Brow: *Judging by your screen name - I'm guessing that you're a Chevy guy. What kind of projects are you working on?
Well you got me on the 434, but I'm no longer pursuing that based on what I've learned I can do with my 350's. It was my first build-up when I was 16 and it ran for 10 years until I took it apart last year. I was impressed to say the least that the stock bottom end took all the abuse I gave it, even 7000rpms, once. Most the time I would shift it at 6 grand. I was young and dumb then so this time around will be a different story. I've got billet rods being made right now, although I've told him I'm in no hurry until the rest of the car comes together. Chasis is done (for now) and I'm working on sanding the body for primer. I just want to drive it! This is my main project right now, but I work on just about everything; from my friends 450hp 1.8L Turbo Miata to my brother-in-laws box van. I'm setting it up for road racing so I can really surprise some people on the track. That's also why I'm looking at the EFI set-ups, fuel starvation from sloshing fuel in the bowls is a bad thing. I know there are ways to combat that but I'd rather be a little different and go for something not so common. Maybe I should change my name to gearhead350, LOL
My brother has a 70 spec LT/1 engine that a friend of ours built. They both frequently took that motor to 7200rpm!:eek2: I know...guys regularly take them higher, but for stock parts with an RPM type cam, that's not too bad. If you want different - you came to the right place!  Anything that can possibly be done with a Chevy, has probably already been done. It's nice to see people's reactions when they see our Buicks!:TU:
Ironically enough, my first ever ride in a muscle car was a 1971 Buick Skylark with an LT-1 motor. After I bought my first one I though it was funny because I didn't even realize it was the same car when I bought it, but it brought back good memories. Since then I've bought 2 more as the first two were beyond repair (for me anyway). Both are resting comfortably in the junkyard in the sky. My latest shell is from Arizona, much better. Don't know if you've ever had the pleasure of working on an AZ car, but I took the exhaust manifolds off with a 3/8 ratchet, no problem and not one broken bolt! That's never happened to me before. BTW - love the screen name. :TU:
Here's my EFI project (with turbos thrown in to keep it interesting!) http://www.thedinosaurgang.com/greencar.htm I hope to have it finished in this lifetime!
That is a sweeeeeet set-up, I didn't have a chance to look through it all, but seems like you've done a great job with it. A lot of homework there for sure. I'm looking to set-up something similar for the 350, i hope you don't mind if I steal some of your ideas. Thanks for the link.
Gearhead434, Can we get you to post your first name(at least) at the bottom of your posts? Just go up to the upper right corner and click on 'user cp' and add your name to your 'signature'. Thanks!:TU: It's nice to keep this board on a first name basis - friendlier that way.:bglasses:
