Anyone else had ground clearance issues with the TA '65-'66 Sky/GS nailhead headers?

I installed them and got only 2" of ground clearance!

    Dan,

Just doesn't seem quite normal how your exhaust has to be modified like that to step back up to be in the correct position.

Are the headers listed for "strip" use only or something? I would think that running those on any normal road, driveway or parking lot would only be asking for trouble.

Did you contact TA and if so, what did they have to say about them?

The headers on my blue 66 are from Kustom Headers, probably made in the 1970's. They hang pretty low too.

I have close to the same problem,,,might have 3 possibly 4 inches of clearance!!! Not very impressed!!!
I haven;t installed my exhaust yet,,but the front pipe on mine will have to be kicked up like Dans are!!!
I even considered putting the stock manifolds back on,,,but will try it for a bit and see what happens!!!
Is your car lowered at all Dan??

Anybody have their stock manifolds ported (Gessler)?
I'm thinking about having him do mine. I've been very pleased with
the 455 and 350 manifolds Greg has ported for me.

If I was going to do it all again,,,I wouldve likely went the Gessler route,,,my headers hang low,,,have to use a smaller oil filter,,,and had to buy a TT mini starter,,factory one wouldn't fit!!!!

Thass the reason that I went with port matched and smoothed up stock manifolds on my 65 GS....
But, I wondered if a guy could ''section'' those headers to raise them up .... i would bet that it could be done...might not have to take them off the car ....just a thought....

Doc could probably verify this, but I've heard that a slightly "massaged" set of stock GS manifolds flow just as well and make just as much power as a set of resonated headers.

I have adjusted the fit of many headers to fit better. It looks like you have a problem I have commonly fixed. The headers look like they angle downward towards the collector. If the clearance at the front of the header is o.k. you could heat all 4 tubes evenly with a torch at the bends where the tubes come together to head towards the collector and place a jack under the collector to raise it up into the frame further. You would have to re-coat/paint the header and refit the exhaust, but I have done this to many headers to gain clearence including the ones on my 455 in my 64 Skylark. Take it slow and heat the entire bend and it should go pretty smooth.

Folks, sorry to here this. The tooling we have is from Kenne-Bell. We have not heard of any trouble up until now and we have sold about sixty sets. The best way to make these headers better would be for us to get a car in the LA CAL area. Thats where our tubing shop is, and have the changes made. So if there is anyone in the LA area that can let us use there car, please give me a call.
