    Hi there!

I am building the fuel system for my 70 Skylark and I am using 1/2 lines for both supply and return. I am looking into adding a sump to the a stainless version of the stock fuel tank and hoping to ensure even flow of fuel at all times even when I launch the car.

If anyone has pics I would love to see how you did it!

This is the sump I am using:

And this is the stainless tank I am am looking at. My car is a 70 however it has 71 bumpers and trim so I think this should work well:

Sean I did it on my 66. I got mine from Summit. It was easy. Lined it up mid rear of tank. Used a hole saw to cut 6 holes into tank and welded perimeter. I went one step further. I used POR15 gas tank sealer after to ensure the welds had no micro holes and to protect the welds from rusting. 1/2 day job. There might be pics on my skull and crossbones part dux thread.

Good idea on the POR for the fuel tank!

I have a friend who is going to weld the sump on the tank, should work well!

Thanks for the pics guys! I ordered a stainless tank for $225 and my friend is fabbing up a stainless sump for me so the whole thing should look nice and stay nice for a long time. Now I just have to buy the fuelpump and regulator to support 800 HP and get to work on putting it together.

Dan, thanks for the offer but I am about 5000 miles away and my car has a 71 rear bumper so I need the 71 style tank. I appreciate the offer though!:TU:

Sorry don't have pics, but make sure you tig weld it. It will look better and a lot less chance of a pin hole. Heck you can seal the whole thing anyway.

Yes it will be TIG welded and using the POR gas tank sealant on the INSIDE, so it will look nice being all stainless..:TU:

I did on my GSX race car. Plus narrowed it to fit the narrowed frame rails and rear end. took a new tank and cut five inches off both sides and brazed the end caps back on. If you look at the back of the car...it looks pretty stock except for the 13X31" slicks. Oh, and I also brazed the sump on...no leaks!

Sounds great! I would love to see some photos of the rear of your car! I was going to narrow the frame on my Skylark and do the same however I decided to keep the stock frame width and stock wheel wells as I can still fit a 12.5" wide 28" tire. It was seeing guys pull a wheely and run 8 second quarter miles on 10.5" wide drag radials that made me stick with the little tires. I do LOVE the look of the GS/Skylarks with wide rims and tires though!

I will try and take some pics. And will of the garage floor at the same time. Yea, I agree. I narrowed the rear when it was cool...back in the late 80's. then right after fast 10.5 cars became cool. I would not do it now...

Being a street car I have to pass an out of country inspection to get the car legal for the street in Canada as it was built in the US. I am not allowed to modify the frame of the car or else it will not pass inspection without current welder certifications and testing on the welds, sure glad I found that out before I had the frame narrowed! After it passes the inspection I am having the suspension mounting points beefed up and adjustable upper and lowers put in place but after it is painted the frame will look VERY close to stock and not enough to cause an issue about the "frame mods".

We were able to hide the twin turbochargers under the flat hood so it just looks like a beater Buick Skylark in primer.

Once the car pulls a wheelie I will reward it with a paint job!

I will have to use studded tires half of the year due to the snow and ice as well LOL!:spank:
