Probably quite a few Mallory slugs at $100 per to bring balance back in. I think Briz knifed a 455, maybe he has some answers if he had the balance done on it.
I was thinking with the way lighter Autotec pistons that would help offset the material removed from the crank. Also considering cutting the rod journals down (stock stroke) and using the NASCAR (lighter) takeout rods to lighten the load.
Internal or external balance? My int. needed 2 slugs, plus 2 rod throws drilled thru. I believe (Alec's) crank has around 6 slugs. Those lite Autotecs and rods still aren't enough, even with small jrnls and newer capscrew style crank, which was supposed to be better but still not enough. Ext may be slightly easier to balance. back in. JW mentioned once how much of a pita int balance on a 350 is. Best would be billet crank with middle throw....
If in you keep it external balanced with the lighter parts and factory or close to it stroke, IMO it should be no problem especially if you start with a cap screw rod crank.
Instead of knife edging I made the priority to keep the oil off the crank as much as possible. Billet crank, internal balance with no issues, crack scraper, windage tray, extra large alum oil pan with baffles and a belt driven oil pump.
Then I'm thinking bull nose also. Would stick with external balance to keep it simple. The crank is still pushing air even with a scraper. Don't see much benefit of the scraper. PS, do we have our priorities mixed up that we are doing this on Christmas? Oh well. Merry Christmas to all.
