Any power seat geniuses around?

Hey, I figure someone has had this problem before. My car has 6-way power seats. The passenger seat is fine but the rear tilt isn't working right. I have to have the front tipped way back or else I can move it so it is parallel with the floor. I can hear the motor making noise. It doesn't click or pop, but makes the same noise as the other functions on the seat which are working fine. I included a diagram. Any suggestions?

All this assumes the car you have is similar to the early 70's style. You didn't mention what car, but I assume it is a 76 full size. :Do No:

On the 71-73 cars I have worked on there are three separate motors, each with a pair of drive cables. You will find a small tower part on the back of each seat rail that extends up and down luch like a miniature bottle jack. Take the cable off one eor the other and run the motor. If the cable spins then your prob is in the bottle jack. If not, keep working back towards the motor til you find the problem.

I've had to fix a couple that acted up like this-both times it was a broken wire from the control switches-good luck

Oops yeah its a electra limited.
Ok, are these pretty generic parts or would they be hard to find if broken? If it is a damaged cable, would the motor still run? My '76 shop manual says it could be a broken gear nut. Ill check it out tomorrow
