As part of my transmission swap (TH400==>TH200-4R) I need to decide which way I want to go in order to create clearance for the TV-cable. 1. Lifting the QJ with adapter, still using stock IM 2. Getting an Edelbrook performer IM (2146, resp. TA 1210 http://www.taperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TA_1210) I am leaning towards the Edelbrock way, as it would ensure that I can still use my stock cold air induction. I know, that I would need to convert to an electric choke, but thats allright with me. I believe I have read somewhere, that the stock intake manifolds 455 base vs. Stage1 have been the same. Are there any huge disadvantages to expect using the Edelbrock performer in combination with my setup (Stage1 camshaft, cast cylinder heads modified for Stage1 valves, QJ-carb)? THX
No disadvantages at all. Im not sure there is any real improvement in flow but you will gain the advantage of weight reduction. If you trying to make it look "factory", I would grind off the Edelbrock logo and just paint it red. It will be almost undetectable to most
I've got a Performer on my 71 GS, and I run a coil choke with a 71 Q-jet. The Performer has a flat pad next to the carb flange, you just use a Chevy style surface mount coil/rod assembly.
Seams to me the colder it gets ( outside air temp ) the longer it takes to get warmed up to achieve a good operating temp. Could be my carb,, Hard to tell..
You mean something like this? https://quadrajetparts.com/divorced-choke-thermostat-chevrolet-p-1993.html
Or you could use the Everyday Performance LLC electric choke conversion kit for Buick Quadrajets. It's carb mounted, designed for exactly this application. Whether you go with a stock intake or performer, it fits. http://www.everyday-performance.com/electric_choke.htm
