Wow, now that's what I imagined in my head when I first came to the guess that my sock was clogged lol. I still haven't dropped the tank yet to see, I have been prepping my 455 shortblock for the machine shop and it's been taking all of my free time. I will update when I find out. Thanks again

Toss in some of your spare rusty bolts and a gallon of kerosene. Garden tract will work too...BBBP

Dropped the tank today... no joy, there wasn’t a build sheet :( ... anyway, my sending unit gave out so that sped things up. Looked at the tank which was spotless on the inside... the sock on the unit was black but not gooey like the pic above. I replaced the unit and all 5 fuel hoses that connected to the tank... they were in pretty bad shape. Does anybody know if there is blue stenciled writing on the top of the 72 tanks? Mine appears to not be original.

Hard to say if the fuel lines were the reason but could of been a cracked one I guess. Time will tell.

What does the stencil look like? These were stamped from rolled steel sheets that were stamped along the roll. Your tank may have a stamp on top or bottom depending on where the roll was when the steel was cut for the tank.

“RMCO” and below that the number 71...along with several other letters. The RMCO had at least one other letter before it but was partially rubbed off and these words were inside a blue triangle.

I dropped my 67 lesabre tank back in 91” and couldn’t believe the crap that came out. I’m going to do it again and replace the sending unit. I just used dish soap to clean it.

Sounds nice! We'll take a look at it as well for the 70 Buick project. Will just finish installing the parts from 4Wheelonline onto the truck this week before we can start working on the Buick.
