Insane Buick maybe in another decade

Ok guys I've been debating with my self for a while now. I have three things that I can do right now, well that have possiblities right now.

    1. Build the 72 lark's 350 for supercharging and get boosted :)

    2. Build the 72 lark's 350 for N/A and run about 9.5 - 10 to 1 compression.

    3. Mildly build my 71 GS455 up with fuel injection.

I want a fast street machine that will be my daily driver. I'll be building the suspension up for good road manners that won't be too bad at the strip. Just wondering what you guys think. Thanks

Build the 72 350 using 70 spec high compression pistons, get a good cam from Jim Burek, do some mild head work, throw on a poston S-Divider or T/A "Stage1 350" , get a decent ignition, and you should be able to get low 14's to high 13's depending on the rest of the car (gears, weight, accessories, etc...)

    I ran 14.990 in my 69 GS 350 with a 70 low compression, bone stock with the exception of a Poston GS 114 cam (with associated springs), a Stinger S-4 ignition and a Q-jet from a '69 430 ...
3.23 open rear gears, TH350. My car is Non A/C, Manual steering and manual brakes... The only belt is alt and water pump. THe way a muscle car should be.

    Got 14.990 @ 93 mph with a 2.39 60' time.

THe 60' time really kills, with traction and a 60' time in the 1.8 - 2.0 second range the 1/4 should go down to like 14.3 - 14.5.

I wish I had high compression cause I'd be in the low 14's now and pushing 13's with some good traction... Some Dyno software has put my car at 14.000 in ideal conditions.

My next 350 will be with stock 70 spec high comp pistons or if I have to get custom pistons then I will go for an actual 10.0:1 ratio, the heads will be ported and massaged a lot, an aluminum intake also match ported. Big bumpy bump cam shooting for a power peak in the 6000-6500 range... Will also do some mild oiling modifications (69 block) and have everything balanced to .5-1 gram. Along with this will be a mandatory POSI rear with minimum 3.23 gears but hopefully 3.42 - 3.73 gears. Will also have the TH350 modified to accept the power and shift at the right points and will use a corresponding torque convertor to match the combo.

    What fun this is...

My vote is for the blown 350.
I (as I'm sure everyone else) would like to see what an all-out 350 is really capable of without a power-adder, but it would probably be a little rough for a daily driver. The blower will let you build a milder engine without sacrificing power.

    I'd like to see a mix of #1 and #3 - Supercharged/Intercooled and Fuel Injected!:TU:

I really think we're just starting to scratch the surface on the potential of the Buick 350!!

    humm...

well guys i'm now starting to put money into my 455...but not much, i'm still debating on fixing up my 350 or going with the 455. more parts are out for the 455 right now and i can make more power with it cheaper. also with a bolt on fuel injection kit for the 455 and when i put in an o/d tranny in it, i think i could get descent gas milage. but the great debate goes on. i would really like to stay n/a though, just so when i beat up on some fords or mopars they can't say i'm using boost as an excuse. i don't know though...thanks for the input

ohh and love that engine pic!

Thanks, that was my first engine rebuild. So far my only but its still going, even ported the heads myself.. Only wish I could've put it in my car. Its in a friend's 65 Skylark. He put on Poston valve covers and a silly foam air cleaner... he also ran a shitty carb on it and burnt an exhaust valve, but he had that fixed already. That engine is a 9:1 compression, .030 over 69 350 w/ GS 114 cam, almost the same as the 70 350 in my GS only difference being I ported those heads...

I still say stay with the 350, they are very potent engines and can easily stomp on mustangs and chevys with not to wild a build plus you'll get better mileage than the 455. Only thing you can't get for a 350 that you can get for a 455 is aluminum heads. Botl on FI isn't available but can be done. (I personally want to see a turbocharged 350, see what the v6's can do, imagine the v8!)
