Am I crazy if I put 200-4R behind 455?

Good news :) 462 stage 1 is much more powerful than mine. I'll use usual all-season tires and buick is not so heavy, so there are some chances to repeat your success.
Do you know what's the difference between your tranny and stock? Surely, frictions and other small stuff. what about case, shafts, planet gears, oil pump?

Also I see that people say about BRZ and CZ codes. What do this letters mean?
I have 200-4r from my Buick '89; another one from early-80th Caddy; and one more from Caprice '86 - all were behind 307.
Could they be BRZ or CZ?

    Transmission identification code.

    http://www.hemmings.com/hmn/stories/2011/01/01/hmn_feature26.html

    From the above document,

"The transmission identification is on a plate on the right side of the case towards the tailshaft. This ID plate is attached by one rivet. The plate will have a two- or three-letter transmission code in large letters.
The most desirable TH-200-4Rs for performance enthusiasts are the units manufactured for Buick Grand National, Olds 4-4-2 and Chevy Monte Carlo SS in 1986-'87. These units used a special valve body. They also had a larger reverse boost valve, second to third intermediate servo, and a specially designed governor assembly. Their BQ, OZ, CZF, KZF or BRF transmission codes can identify these more desirable units."

I have no idea what my trans originated from but it was built with hardened parts by a local builder, better clutches, etc. He has been doing all manner of transmissions for decades. He races Olds and lives near John Osborne so he knows what big torque a BBB can put out. I left it to his best judgement what needed to be done. Sorry I'm not more helpful.

TexasT Texas, where are you from

The brf and the czf were from the Turbo Regal and Monte Carlo SS respectively so I doubt this is what you have.

I would check out the Cadillac one to see if it is the AA code. This is a good one to start with. The caprice is probably a CR code and the 89 Buick might be a KT. There is a small metal plate on the rear pass side of the trans with the code and a string of numbers and letters. If you could post them or pix of them we code tell you what they were at least from the factory.

You need to get the pressure up. A .500 boost valve, larger rev boost valve and blue or pink 700r4 spring are needed. I used regular tan clutches and stock steels in all except the direct(I used raybestos red clutches there) and used a carbon band. The voodoo is in the setup of the clutches., You need a copy of the CKperformance 2004r manual. http://www.ckperformance.com/View/GM-2004R-TECHNICAL-MANUAL

SOunds like this wagon already has the tv cable so you might not have to do too much. But if you are putting it into some thing else a tv setup is crucial for trans life.
Check out www.tvmadeez.com and read the links in the left column about tv and its set up. http://www.tvmadeez.com/article/index.php

im not sure on all motor mounts but I know that later b bodies use the same frame as second gen a bodies. 73-75 a bodies are the only ones offered with a big block. you could hack up chevy mounts or anything to make it work though.

should be at least a 2.73 if its a 89 most where 3.08 or 3.23 that I know of. a 3.23 would make it cruise at 2200 rpm or less so its not running hard at all. a 30 spline 8.5 will handle quite a bit of power. the only thing that dies is the gm gov lock if it has it. with a aftermarket posi it should be fine with way more power than what your putting through it.
