Reg #4 is the brown wire. I do seem to recall making a brown/blue splice there. I guess I had an allthetimers moment and thought I retired the regulator in place but evidently I removed it after the splice. My Bad! Honestly, the wiring was such a mess that I just about went through the whole system (my weakest forte') . Its really pretty simple. Stay with it! ws
Correct, one end was at the regulator, the other at your old alternator connector. Wire the new connector as described and it will make sense.
Also, went to two auto parts stores. Found a connector that I can make work. I can just cut off the gray end.
NEXT ISSUE..... Why can’t I find a 12si with more than one pulley on it? Even the ones with AC have one pulley. Even the dang 10si have one pulley... even when I tell them it’s for AC.
Just transfer your old pulley to the new alternator. You can zip the bolt off with an air impact wrench.
I can get a 63 amp 10si with two pulleys. I figured why not get a 78 or 94 amp for not much more. Then I can run my electric winch and snow plow too. Lol.
So it looks like your #1 alt (white) is what you spliced to the #4 (brown) and F (blue) on the regulator. Same as what Larry and that article said. I’ll be darned if i don’t go off this site and get very confused by some of the crap that’s published. It all makes sense. The only part from that Buick article that could be made better is to say exactly what to do with the white wire from the regulator. Us engineers are almost too good at following directions. The white regulator wire doesn’t have a power source from the generator any more AND it operated the field relay windings in the regulator. So now it’s useless.
I think I’m going to pick me up a nice 87 Buick Regal or Monte Carlo alternator and just change pulleys.
If you do not want to cut your wiring do what I did. I think buick is the same.. Nelson http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevelle-Al...ash=item28062bf784:g:0kwAAOSwJ7RYTwXK&vxp=mtr
Duralast DL7194-6-3; you'll swap pulleys and grind a very small nub off the lower back of the case so she drops in place. Lifetime warranty. Buy a pigtail and a new positive cap. Wire 10 gauge right to the positive pole on the battery or directly to the starter like stock.
Thank you, this makes sense to me as I don’t want to cut any of the original wires If I can help it. Then I have a very clean option of going back to original down the road
Chevelle Buick Lol. I think the chevelle is identical. The Buick blue wire is the chevelle “double” wire. It’s a match.
