Oh Dude...................I was afraid of that, those books are often wrong.

OK, who has an original car that can look up this number? Come on, someone get off your butt, open up a hood and help Kevin out.

    Kevin,
OK I looked up the numbers in the assembly manual. It lists
1102448 (55 amp) for an A-body with AC, and
1102449 (37 amp) for an A-body without AC

So it appears you are looking for the right number alt.

Thanks for checking , Duane . I have a friend doing a 72 GS 350 with A/C , and his car has the wrong alternator on it . Single groove pulley . So while we're at a Members house picking up other parts , he mentions he needs a 2 groove pulley . The Member happen to have an alternator laying around with the 2 groove on it , so he says , "Give me 5 bucks , and just take the whole thing with you . Get it off later . " Well , guess what the part number was ???? Yeah , the correct one for his car ! Wrong date code for mine , and his as well , but he's just getting the right parts and not worrying about date codes . They are out there . Somewhere ......:Dou:

Kevin..for one thing, I didnt think I had one...and secondly..I didn't really want to search thru 15+ alts to find one for you...:Brow: just Lazy. Thats all I can say. Pure Lazyness...plus the fact that I was really hoping someone else would stepup up for you. :Dou: Does HONESTY count? Wheelz, Tampa Bay

VERY. emotional. ride. Hi Kevin! Well, I got home early today and decided to box up some items I've recently sold...I am always excited to know that the parts I send out to peeps, helps with some restoration somehow/somewhere! Today is no different. Well, actually it is. Ya see. after I retreived this alternator YOU SO BADLY NEED...and was cleaning it up a bit..I noticed my 'barely legible' handwriting on the side, in sharpie black..."original S/C alt" ...meaning NOTHING to you or anybody else....but to me..its the ORIGINAL ALT for my 72 Sun Coupe! :Dou: Yes I still own the car..and YES my Sun Coupe still sports the original QJ carb, original dist...original 285K 350-4 engine and matching tranny. A/C, power windows, disc brakes, factory am/fm, etc..etc. ALL OF A SUDDEN..my excitement from knowing I was helping YOU out..turned into an immediate stressful situation. O'What to do? What to do?. . . Now I HAVE to ask you..WHAT WOULD YOU DO?? WOULD YOU... disappoint a fello Buick enthusiast and live with other club members frowning upon your name forevermore? :blast: Or would you hold onto it??? Ya see, sharing this situation with you saddens me to great extent. MY OWN PERSON says to "hold onto it you dummy..its the original and THAT is why you have kept it all these years anyway!!" so, just go ahead and put it back on the shelf and hope Kevin locates another...:bla: THEN my other side says "C'mon, DONT disappoint the man...he needs it more than you"....:spank: I am torn. :ball: WHAT WOULD YOU DO?? WHAT would anybody else DO??? :Do No: Wheelz, Tampa Bay

If you didn't keep it , I would fly down there and kick you square in the pants myself . This is a no brainer . There are literally THOUSANDS out there . Put her back on the shelf . I have a rebuilt / refinished one ( just the wrong numbers ) on the car that works fine . I'm looking for stuff now , so down the road a few years , I can make mine more correct . Honesty is the best policy . :beer

Kevin...all I can say is, YOU'RE THE BEST! THANQ for making my life a bit less stressful at the moment.... BTW..I just remembered I also have a 72 455 tucked away with an alt still intact!? Would the p/n be the same 350 vs 455?? Could BE?? Maybe..JUST maybe? I dunno but Ill check and get back. :beer ThanQ again for understanding :) ....Wheelz, Tampa Bay

455 , 350 doesn't matter , as long as it had air . There may be other things , as posted above , like rear window defog , that made the 55 amp standard . I know it's out there , just hoping someone has the time to check . If you've ever parted out a 72 GS / Skylark with air , and kept the alterenator , please give it a look . Like Duane said , IT SHOULDN'T BE THIS HARD !!!!!!! ( Honestly , though . If I wanted easy , I would've bought a Chevy . ):TU:

Well I'm still looking. Anyone with a spare alt kicking around , please check. The 2 I have might be needed by someone and I'd be more than happy to give them up , as long as I have the right one for mine. I have a 1105084 and a 1100843 . I don't know what they are from , but if you need one of them , I'd be more than happy to help you out .

I have a 1102448 alt that I just took off. I think the date code is 2E23. Would that work for you?

It would need to be rebuilt, as it was starting to make a chirping noise. Sounded like a bearing starting to go.

yes, no, maybe? If you don't need it I'll run it back to the parts house and get my core charge back.

Too late of a build , Fred . Thanks for looking though , I really appreciate it . Yours is an early 72 and I need a late 71 .

Gotcha. Didn't want to take it back as a core if you could use it.
