I am close to finishing a concourse level restoration on a 70 GS and was wondering what is the best way to bleed a completely new brake system without using a power bleeder.

Should I bench bleed the master cylinder first and then hook up the brake lines? Does the proportioning valve need to be "held open" during the bleeding operation? What is the best brake fluid to use?

    Thanks for any information,

    Philip

Get the Mity-Vac brake bleeder. This works great, makes it a one-man operation. Bench bleed master and then mount. If you are going to keep the car, use silicone brake fluid.

Exactly what George said! A Mity-vac is a great inexpensive tool investment. You'll be fine with the plastic version as long as you take good care of it.

Yes Philip, you need to push the button on the back of the valve according to the service manual. It is covered by a rubber booty. I shoved a wooden shim behind it for lack of a better method.

I am a fan of the gravity bleed.

Gravity feed is fine too but takes way too much time.
Up to you how you want to do it.
