Hi guys, buying a new power steering pump, I noticed that some are marked as "with air pump" and some "without air pump". I've searched the forums, google as well as the service manual, and think the pump is used to reducing emissions or something, but why is it relevant for the power steering pump? I'm quite lost honestly
72 originally had a smog emission air pump (not found on 70-71), just above the power steering pump. That is the reason the ram air cleaner is different on 72 compared with the earlier years. It may be asking whether it has this pump or not. Not sure if the brackets are different or not.
aaah, good to know. Mine might had it at some point, but for sure there isn't something like this anymore. I see the hose going from the pump passing the silver flexpipe into the air filter on your photo... Thanks for helping out
Don't know what the difference in the power steering pump would be but it uses a different bracket when an AIR pump is fitted. Here is a before and after removing the AIR pump from the Electra" If your power steering bracket looks like this the it had AIR otherwise not. Also (and it took a while for me to catch on to this) it's AIR not 'air' Stands for Air Injection Reactor system.
Keep in mind, your pump may have been removed, but it may still have the bracket that went with the pump set-up. Look at Bob's photo to see if your bracket is similar.
