Anyone have any pictures, and or suggestions for a Stage 2 scoop setup? Switching over, and wondering what setup people are running for air cleaners, or non air cleaners and also the bottom sealer pan, to the hood. Thanks. John
I'm running a Stage2 scoop with a tall K&N filter. Does not seal to hood. Moving to a fiberglass lift-off hood in the future , and plan on fabricating something to seal hood to carb.... Subscribed/watching.......JIM
I had a really neat setup on mine using an air bell and a large pizza baking pan,..all the pics were lost on the site crash tho
Was it Gary Kubisch that used to make air pans for Stage 2 scoops? He may still make them... Always wanted one but never got one.
Heres what I did. I had a sheet of alluminum from something. I riveted it to the air cleaner base. I bought some foam and sealed it off. I raised the base up too. Seems to work.
It's not the most effective from a performance standpoint but I wanted to somewhat copy the look of the original Stage 2 setup. This was done by fabricating an aftermarket dropped base made for a Holley carburetor into a GM air cleaner that was originally made for a Q-jet (I used a '70-'72 Chevelle air cleaner made for a cowl induction car, cut off the single snorkel and welded up the hole). Then I used a metal sealing ring from a Chevrolet (use either a '69 Camaro or '70-72 Chevelle) and attached a reproduction foam made for a '70-'72 Oldsmobile W30 (big block). I can't use the foam for the W31 small block cars as it is too tall. I do not have a sealing ring on the bottom of the hood but the foam fits pretty tight. I have a wire screen hat on the carburetor to keep out large objects since there is no filter when this is on the car. For driving around on the roads I can just take it all off and run a small K&N filter.
What did you end up doing? I have a conical airaid filter as well, but I don't have that spiffy top. So what did you use for for filter and pan? I like that setup!
Folger can is insurance to keep things outta carb, not some top secret racing thang! I don't use an air filter , just a carb screen at track to keep the birds out. I coated the interior of the seal foam with K&Ns air cleaner oil. Guess I'll see how it works out, someday, still stuck in the Covid Cobana. Jim
Thanks Shawn. I bought an 18" pizza pan and used pop rivets to secure my existing 14" KN air cleaner base to it. I ended up using the Airaid 801-452 conical filter that is around 3" tall or so and the KN 66-1101 X-Stream Top filter for the lid. This puts the lid about flush with the hole in the hood. Moroso 97070 Replacement sealing foam comes in a 4"x60" piece. I ended up making a slit in the foam about 1/4" or so from the bottom the entire length and rolled it around the pan into the slit and glued it down. Where it seamed together I had used 2 zip ties to hold it together but it looked like crap …. So I had a Velcro strap I had replaced on an AR Pistol brace and used that to cover up the seam. I put another slit at the bottom of the seam and threaded the Velcro strap through and around. Boom, done. I'll take more pics if anyone wants them, just let me know. I've got a nice tight seal and the car is running great. Got it wide-band tuned on the dyno last week, but I'll post another thread later. Pete.
Factory air cleaner base with a L shaped ring riveted to the it, and foam glued to that to seal to underside of the hood, and cut at an angle to match the hood line.
How Buick or Dennis did it is a modified bottom and a Z-28 upper. Pics if you wanted. Or search… One of two. The original
