I bought this air cleaner assembly for my 401 stock street rod engine. I'm now wondering if it will do the job OK because of the size of the paper element itself.
    It measures 4 3/4 ID X 6 1/8 OD X 2 3/8 high. Will the engine get enough air flow ? IMG_7159.jpg
Going to use a Quadrajet carb.

A paper filter of twice that size you posted only flows some 690 cfm in a good GM 60s type duel snorkle air cleaner set up , and a Q-jet Carb flows 750 if its not the little used 800 cfm model.

I do not know how much HP your motor makes, but you want a 600 cfm Carb if your going to make 400 HP, and this calls for a air cleaner that can flow more then the Carb!

air cleaner scoop's are eye candy and will always cut back on whatever level of air flow the basic air filter itself can muster untill the car is above 50 mph when when some ramming takes place if there's no Hood or the scoop pertrudes from the Hood!

I recall a member's dyno of a stock 401 demonstrates closer to 250 HP at the flywheel. The factory numbers were artificial and exaggerated.

There is a cold air induction gain below 100 mph but almost no gain from ram air effects.

My original intention was to have it protruding out of the hood. I was going to manufacture an extension housing to bolt on to the top of the carb and have the scoop on top and try and "fool" people that the engine was supercharged. But now changed my plans and not doing that. So there will be no ramming effect.
But I still like the look of it and with the hood sides off and bolted directly on top of carb, may or may not be able to be seen until it's all finished. No point in it looking good if it won't do the business.
