Has anyone installed an aftermarket A/C unit in a 65 Skylark? If so which one did you use? I talked to Vintage Air and they said universal unit but it must me about the same as any A-Body from that year. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Fred Z.

I gave him a try but he is stalled and hasn't put it under the dash yet. Thanks for the thought.

Such are the conditions that prevail! (Re: Aftermarket Air/65 Skylark)

Hi Fred, Korrie, and V-8 Buick cool cat wannabees,

Said with a suitable voice impersonation of Jimmy Durante: "Such are the conditions that prevail!"

Worse still, obviously summer has arrived.:af:

There are guys on V-8 Buick who have done this, but I don't know of anyone who has detailed pictures of how they set up the dash area.

You might do some searching on Team Chevelle. I found more information there and there are some aftermarket A/C installs documented with plenty of pics.

Sorry, I sure wish I had better news to report! :(

    Cheers, Edouard :beer

I'm ordering the Chevelle kit from Vintage Air in the next week or two. I know of another person that already installed the same kit in his 65 Sky and it turned out / works well. He says that the instructions are pretty good and easy to follow.

Thanks for the help. I was hoping another A Body would fit.

    Thanks again,

Believe evaporators are all the same (Re: Aftermarket Air/65 Skylark)

Hi Fred, Jeff and V-8 Buick cool cat wantabees,

I think you know Fred that I went with the GTO kit. As far as I know the evaporators are all the same for any of these models. So if you want the GTO kit, you shouldn't have any more difficulties than you would going with the Chevelle kit.

    Anybody know different?

    Cheers, Edouard :beer

I think the only difference between the GTO/Chevelle kits are the under-dash vents... which I don't plan on using.

Different controls? (Re: Aftermarket Air/65 Skylark)

Howdy Jeff and V-8 Buick A/C wannabees,

I'm not sure because I only judged this from the manuals, but it appeared to me that control in the GTO kit may have been slightly different. Certainly the instructions for modifying the GTO controls are much closer to what would be needed to convert the Buick levers. Basically the Pontiac and Buick controls function the same except that Pontiac provided a lever to choose from outside or recirculated air. Since Vintage Air is recirculated air only, that lever isn't even used on the Vintage Air kit.

I haven't looked at any of this in 6 months or more, so I could easily be wrong . . . . :Dou:

Works great in my Special wagon!! (Re: Aftermarket Air/65 Skylark)

Dear Mike and V-8 Buick cool-cat wannabees,

I haven't heard about Fred's install, but the install in my trusty 1965 Buick Special wagon turned out GREAT!!

There is a thread on the installation here:

    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...t-system-into-a-1964-67-Buick-Skylark-Special

It isn't easy, but if you are persistent it can be done and works very bit as a modern A/C system. I'm ashamed at how many times I've had to resort to using the air conditioner . . . . this winter!

I could blame it on global warming, but most likely it is because a station wagon has a lot of roof area and since I haven't gotten around to insulating the area between the roof and the headliner . . . . Need I say more! :Brow:

If you have questions, either shoot me a PM or add a posting to my thread on installing A/C in my wagon!

    Cheers, Edouard
