I have a 67 GS with a 455 that runs 12.30's - 12.50's. After replacing all 4 controll arms, traction is no better. I used QA1 upper adjustable arms and set pinion at -2 degrees. The lowers are Edelbrock arms (heavy). On the front I have cheap gas shocks and El Camino springs that are quite springy but are slow to stretch out on a launch.Tires are 12.5-15 ET Street. I'm considering TA no-hops or high dollar adjustable front shocks but don't want to waste any more money for nothing. Please share your experiance to help me make a wise choice. Thanks Gary B.
On my rearend, I have HRpartsNstuff adj. uppers and boxed lowers (pinion set to -4 degrees), factory springs with air bags. I set the driver's side to 5-7 lbs. and the passenger side to @15 lbs. Shocks are Edelbrock IAS shocks. I also do have front and rear sway bars. My car plants the tires real well. 60' times are always in the low to mid 1.6's. I've been told that my car kind of just rises up on the starting line, kind of like a GNX that's been on the "American Muscle Car" show. At 4200 lbs. I'm not lifting the front wheels. But then again, I'm not running drag shocks/springs and the Edelbrock shocks are made not to allow sudden changes like that. I've been real happy with the setup overall, at the track and on the street.
Buy good shocks all the way around. The cheap adjustable shocks loosen up like you need but may not hold the frontend up long enough to maintain traction after the initial hit.I would look into good rear shocks and loosen the extention to help plant the tires.Don't go to far when loosening the extention to loose and you'll wad up the slicks instead of getting up on the tire.
we use the Qua,1,s in everything ,and in the faster cars we use the frt shock and spring replacement setup,30lbs lighter than stock spring and shock :3gears: bob
