Good luck with that, but if you find two of them let me know, I need one too  The Parts Place reproduces them but the stamping is 90 degree off from what the originals are.

    wheelz 'B' is for Buick.

....and THATS how 'they' get away using the AC name and p/ns..they make a slight change to the product and that basically allows them to get away without obtaining GM licenses. Their thinking is "thats ok..most people wont notice anyway". . . and unfortunately, they're probably right. :pp Wheelz, Tampa Bay

I have seen an NOS FC65 cap that also had the lettering 90* off, and was thinking it was for for the Pontiacs (and possibly Corvetts ) with chrome valve covers which had the oil cap tabs at 12 and 6 o'clock when installed on the valve cover vs. our Buicks at 3 and 9 o'clock. I'm guessing the Parts Place used one of those when they had them made.

It's the exact same cap as a `70 GTO, including the position of the part number. I had to borrow one off a `70 GTO so the GSX could go to Columbus this year. Maybe GM offered them on other cars that were different but the Buick and Pontiac are not the same cap as The Parts Place cap. Maybe I'm too picky but I'm not going to use it unless it's correct.

Here is a hot tip. Go to the Junkyard and look for 1988 Buick Centuries 4 dr or wagons.(I think some wagons have wood grain siding) They are easily identified by the 3.0 emblem on the forward area of the front fenders. Open the hood and right in the front of the transverse mounted engine you may see a chrome oil cap with a black sticker on it with Oil info on it. Peel off the sticker and you often now have a pristine almost NOS looking Correct Stage-1 cap with the FC-65. The only problem is there is no ryme or reason if the cars will have this cap or a plastic cap. GM must have had a ton of these laying around and then ran out and started using plastic. Just do not let the black sticker fool you. These are the real deal. I have gotten many of these over the years for about a buck a piece. Problem is around here is these cars have all dried up over the past years. Maybe still some left in your area. Go look now. I have sold and given away several of these over the years but only have enough left to cover myself. Good hunting and do not pay the PArts place big bucks when you can get one for next to nothing if you are lucky. Just leave the sticker on and thell the guy in the yard it is for your 88 Century not a Stage-1 or big buck vette.

I will check all my originals to see if they are oriented different. I will bet there is no set way they were put together but just random.

I used to buy these in lots of 25 from my AC-Delco parts house back in the mid-80's.....for about $3.00 each.

They ALL had the same orientation......they were put in a press and i'm sure that the top and bottom were indexed the same way each time.

I never saw one that did'nt go on the same way as every other one i ever had......until the chinese repo's

My oil fill cap doesn't fit tight. It's loose and I'm not sure why. I'm using my 69 400ci valve covers. Anyone know if this one is available repro or new, or junkyard crossover?

Should be able to bend the tabs just a bit so it will fit tighter, or make either a thicker gasket or an extra gasket to take up the slack.

hmm, maybe should give it a shot. Cork or some other material?

I know what your problem is. Figured it out by getting multiple used ones and getting some basd ones that would not tighten. If you look underneath there should be a double gasket. One of the gaskets is broken and may be completely gone. This is why it will not fit tight. Probably cannot fix it as it is pressed together.

I have one of the 90* off ones from the parts place. They were discussed on the board at one time. We think they are repo's but are not sure. They do come up on e-bay and I have a daily e-bay search for them.

I think just about any gasket material would work but I don't think I'd use cork. You should be able to make something and thread it on there from the back side like a button. It won't fit tight like the original but it shouldn't be a problem as long as you're aware of it.
