So what was the stuff? Plated lead? Polished brass? Now ya hafta carry a can of whoop-ass polish with you. While yer engaging this nice couple out the drivers window, have Bubba approach the passenger side and have him check out the wife, REALLY CLOSE. ws

The clasp and the charm thing that hangs from the chain were real and stamped 18k Probably worth around 40.00. The chain is some sort of pot metal plated with shiny stuff. The ring is worth a few $ as costume jewelry. Gave both of them to my daughter. If this guy is as active as he is I'll run into him sooner than later. Maybe I'll try to pull a reverse scam on him.

Unfortunately you have only given this scammer more confidence. You're out a couple hundred bucks. Feel for the fool who gives him his last dollar. You should have called cops.

The cops around here would say they have to see it happening or theres nothing they can do. Imagine how much money this guy is making everyday. Like stated above. Karma goes both ways. Will I help the next person asking for gas and food, probably.. Hand out cash, no way.

The best thing would have been to ask; - "do you have any idea who you're talking to? What if I work for the IRS?" (put whatever agency you want there, just don't say you're a cop)
And then see how fast the guy turns tail and runs.
I did that to a gypsy trying to scam me on fake Italian leather coats, when he asked me what I did for a living I told him I worked for the government at the airport, do training for the agents there...he pieced it together and high-tailed it out pretty fast.

Steve, your heart was right and that’s what matters. It’s on him now. The amount wasn’t so much that it has put you in a bind. You’ll get it back double or more. We can’t out give God! Mark

This same thing happened recently to an Oldsmobile guy on the Olds website almost word for word on the West Coast. Hard to believe people fall for it. A magnet is your friend. they don't even own the cars they are driving, they are rented. I'm sorry you lost your $........

I've been approached many times traveling around, guess I just have one of those I'm a chump faces. I always walk away unless it's outside a place you can get a meal in and they claim to be hungry with no money, then I will offer to take them in and buy a meal for them if they except that I feed them if not I walk. I had a women in DC except my offer and she ate like she was starving and kept telling me what a great guy I was, that was worth it and I picked up a guy hitching a ride down south to make a relatives funeral, he didn't ask for any money but I stopped and got him something to eat just for grins and he was very happy someone gave a **** about him. There are people out there that need help but you just got to be careful. It does make you feel good when it's for real and not a scam.
