Thanks BRIZ!!! Im leaning towards the ceiling as floor space is at a premium. I have open rafters, insulated to the peak, and a 48 ceiling fan in the attic space. Think I'll jump on it. Already have gas, 110VAC and Low V for a T-stat installed. Ill need to install and devise a plenum/duct for distribution... I owe you a warm beer budddy! ws

Got the furnace for an even HUNNERT! No sheinie in that guy! Looks very clean and complete minus the exhaust plenum and being mounted horizontal at take down, I am going back with the same arrangement. Once the BAD LAD is out of garage "B" Ill have all summer and lotsa room to finagle it to where I want it. Probably weighs 100 lbs. so a double rafter hanging with studs and unistrut should be good. Pics will follow after our nap and lunch at Olive Garden. Pats birthday is Saturday so I took her out for a change! ws

A hundred is a killer deal! I have something like that hanging on my ceiling. You will love it. Happy early B'day to Pat! You spend a 100.00 on a heater and 40.00 to eat, and she's happy? She's a keeper.

So after getting winded out, thought I'd swing by the shop for a few minutes and a few pics. This will be tomorrows job. Happy easter everyone! FWIW.... these are back bent 120 fittings to make the crossover at the crossmember and keep the lines away from the headers. The AN6 hose will go through the frame rails up to the front frame horn all on the passenger side. Theres 2 nice big rounded holes that the General put in for dummies like us LOL... ws

Slummed for a while yesterday, only managed to get 2 coats of varnish on the boat stuff and came home for some CT (couch time LOL). Had a nice dinner and watched walking dead with 3 dogs on the couch with us. One big happy family!

Putzed around in the shop for a while today playing with fittings and such. Got the two trans adapter fittings on with some anaerobic sealant with the supplied steel washers and checked the 120* back bent AN6 fittings for perfect alignment to the cross member. My motor parts guy sells the blue hose by the foot, so I had a length 14 feet long and will probably use 8 feet per line. The guy actually buys the cut offs back since they make a lot of short fuel hoses and such for the farmers and construction co.s around here.

Got the upper line from the trans run to the upper cooler fitting as per the book. Made up the cooler fitting and it looks golden! Tomorrow is the other lower line and then the two trans fittings. Its a little finagling, but not impossible. FLAME ON TYRONE!!

Ppat looks on after freezing on the moped. I just got it back. 15 mile drive with my baby cruising along at about 30MPH and a stiff wind. Brrrr.

WHEW... been a whirlwind week with Doctors and dang snow yesterday, 10"+ and today the driveway is melted and dry. Spent some time wisely with the BAD LAD getting the cooling hoses made up, and run. Job is just zip ted in place for now and will clamp it for keeps probably this afternoon. Gotta hit the boat first and take advantage of the warmer (freezing plus 5!) weather.

So yesterday, I returned 2 pieces of unused AN6 blue hose. 5 and 14 feet respectively. The motor parts guy refunded me by the foot, 100% of the purchase price. I even used some brakeclean on a rag for no finger prints and returned the clean OEM box. I also need an 18mm flare nut crows foot to tighten one trans fitting like an additional 1/2 flat. The MP guy said he didnt have one at the shop but he could bring his personal one in for me to borrow anytime. I thought of a different route. I hit the 3 crack autos in town for some other stuff and they all looked at me like I had a third eye in the middle of my forehead. I needed a governor rebuild kit and a cork trans pan gasket and BRASS SCREEN filter for the 400 turbo. The 3 little chickies I dealt with didnt have a clue. All thats available is the "Master rebuild kit". KRIPES

The one store actually had the crows feet at $17.00 each or $25 for the set. I took the set, used the one, and had to return them. Careful not to scratch the one even with an extension being inserted. 2 clicks on the ratchet and I was done. I am a cheap fugger. Next time Ill know what to make. I needed to modify a deep socket like the ones used for Detroit Diesel 2 strokes fuel jumper lines.

So I get home and order off the edog, a governor kit (new gear and gasket) and a mesh screen filter and will use the tin pan (OEM unless it leaks. I usually have good luck with that stuff not leaking. Maybe this year will see more driving and less ol on the floor! ws

YOU BETCHA! All those zip ties are just there to keep the Anacondas under control. Otherwise they become unwieldy. I've debated with self about hose clamps as well altho I've never seen a leaker with that Imperial Eastman hose and push on barbed fittings.

I had a gig doing secondary 2 micron oil filters on OTR truck fleets and a lot of service generators on oil derricks and never had a failure. Of course this is mine so they are bound to fai....... ws

So I got my trans filter (brass screen type!) and pan gasket AND my governor rebuild kit. The gov. thing is strictly precautionary; had the plastic gear bust before. The new gear isnt drilled. Hmmm. They sat to "carefully drill it slowly". WTF. Looks like a lathe job to me. Probably gonna finish the XGS this week and maybe go for a spin. At least look for leaks LOL.. ws

Sometimes I guess its good to be OCD; I tend to keep a lot of stuff, "just in case", and this round was saw dust from the table saw cutting boat lumber. Probably 2-3 coffee cans full goes a looong way.

After about 3 hours "sweeping up" (yeah right) on the boat I swung out to where the XGS sleeps. It was gonna be an easy job, mounting the new cooling hoses to the frame, but a few other items needed attention first. Being a 1972 with the fuel tank vapor collector (already retired in place) distribution block behind the rear seat with a rusty line running all the way from the passenger side forward to the frame crossmember and up to the carbon canister needed removal. The POS PO had the thing run through a few header pipes and wedged deep down between them (dont ask me how!) and a dozen or so OEM frame clamps, the run needed to be cut 3 times to extricate it. The header section was the worst with a piece of hose and two large hose clamps as an anti vibration/chafe guard (?) All gone now and the new blue hoses securely mounted with TECH screws into the frame and cross member. Will probably follow up with some zip ties for vibration control between the clamps.

Got the two gallon oil drain pan ready and popped the governor out for a visual. Gear looks like new including internal drive gear and speedo gear drive (2 plastic gears) so I now have a spare Gov. drive gear. Needed the new gasket; oh well. Trans is clean inside and greezy outside. Will deal with that via a pressure washer when the outside water returns to service.

Of course, being as careful as possible, the 400T pan spewed forth its' seed upon the ground (Corinthians, John: 23-7). Pan had a rubber gasket and I have an OEM cork replacement. Everything needs some cleaning.

Any ideas how much red juice to refill the pan including oil cooler and lines? Why the two different springs in the governor weights. This one has the drilled weights. Whats with that?

So, things are drawing to a close ( I hope!) for wintertime shop work. Just some odds and ends. This years stuff was the MAD DASH, (in and out) A.C. duct correction, Overhaul drive shaft, R&R rear suspension via differential removal and inspection. I just hope its not a cluster fork when I turn that key next week! Not too bad for a disabled old fat guy LOL... ws

So I was cleaning all the trans parts, pan, bolts, gov. cover etc and it was all going pretty well. I forgot, even after drip drying all night that he filter (400T) holds about 1/4 of a quart of ATF. So I got to re-clean the floor underneath again.

Pan was pretty clean inside, but outside everything was pretty grody. The Po had used permatex (from the tube kind) on both sides of the governor cover gasket and the pan to gasket face. Always loved cleaning up 20 year old permatex.

So I am now installing the filter amongst the mess and finding myself struggling with it to get it back on the pipe. Its all by feel as i am under the passenger side on the floor. I rassled the filter before it finally went "flump" and fell up into place on the filter grommet. Put the sloppy fitting bolt back in and tightened to 20lbs per the book.

Now I beseech the exspurts; what are the chances that the pick up became dislodged from the top? The pan is on and drawn up and I was gonna add the juice tomorrow. Should I drop the empty pan back down for a look?????
Theres two funky looking tabs on the steel pipe to hold it in place. If it did drop outa the fit would the assembly have been as easy as it was? The new filter did not come with a pipe or new O ring(s), just a new grommet on the filter.

If the pan has to come off, so be it. The car is on the ground again so an attack from the drivers side will make the pipe much more obvious. I probably do a drain plug at the same time. Hmmm.

    EXSPURTS??? ws

If you felt it go into place on the pick-up and were able to get the bolt in, I'd say you're fine Bill. If the pick-up was off, I don't think you would've gotten the bolt started without some finagling, especially after you felt the filter slide on.

I would wholeheartedly agree with that Luke, however, theres no bolt on the pipe. Theres like 2 wings on it which kinda hold it in position for assembly. You slide it up into the hole against the O ring and either push it to one side a bit or maybe a twist to catch the wings. As its all pretty tightly packed up in there, I cant see the pipe missing the hole, but to drop the empty pan and inspect it (and install a drain plug!) it'll be a lot easier without the oil in it as Im sure you know! I don't know how easy is is to lose the position or if its even possible to get the filter and pan back on.

Thanks for the reply! Sometimes I think this bozoputer aint transmittin'! I watched a ton of youtube stuff and they always smooved over that one critical step; even the shop manual glides over it. ws
