    Take a lesson from me.

I really wanted a 65 skylark . Not a special, not a 64, not a 4 door, not a post. I put a saved search on craigslist and stayed in the ads everyday. When one came across and i had the money I got it, I remember I was one or the 1st to go see it.

That was going on 2 years maybe 3 I dont know. But I never erased the saved craigslist search and the email always came in. I casted a wide search and till this day NOTHING has came across my email that had what I was looking for. The money I had for the skylark would have been gone too or EVEN WORSE put into something I didn't really want like I wanted a 65.

So go for what you want, sell off or put aside what you dont.
Get what you want, and fast or someone else would.

    Hi,

I can relate, spent 4-5 years looking for a blue interior post car, really wanted a dark blue exterior but settled for silver, bad engine trans paint bt decent door panels and body, still needs trunk floor and window channels repaired.

I also wanted a 4 speed, ended up buying a 4 door and was not disappointed as in related to all the others I looked at it was the car I compared all the others to.

10 years later I have the post car on the road and a GS drivetrain interior done, also still have the 4 door now that needs some attention

Good luck with the search, figure out what you can live with and what you can't, you can always swap in the drivetrain you want, auto to manual or vise versa

Also look for the best example unless you like bodywork.

Post your wishlist and people might be able to keep a eye out

    Regards,

I have done that, I bought a 87 chevy fleet side truck and wanted a 73-79 chevy step side and after looking at the work the 87 needed and if I bought the parts to make it the truck I really wanted I was better off selling the 87 and just buying what I want. I sold the truck and haven't found the right one at the right time yet.

I also wanted my cousin 70 GS Stage 1 but his son got it, which is ok. So I bought my 70 skylark and I am collecting parts to make mine a clone.

Yup. I always wanted a `65 Skylark. I've had a lot of different cars over the years. Ford, Mopar, Chevy, even a Rambler wagon. It didn't matter to me, I like them all for the most part and I've never been specifically brand loyal but when I decided after that last `70 Nova I had it was time I looked for a `65 Skylark. It had to be a hardtop and it had to have a halo top. I looked until I found the right one, and I knew it as soon as I saw it. A rust free Florida car, too. With factory a/c. I've had it 17 years now. I've had a lot of fun with the car and I can't imagine myself ever selling it.

Once again, I've always kinda wanted an El Camino. Two years ago we were on our way home from a car show where they had over 1,300 cars, most of it on grass. My wife and I talked on the way home about it because she likes old cars as much as I do but there's just no way for her to cover that ground in a wheelchair, even with me pushing it. We couldn't get her powerchair in the Buick and I really didn't want to put a trailer hitch on it so I could take the carrier for it. Anyway, I said I have a solution, an El Camino. We could put her powerchair right in the back and she'd be able to ride around and see the whole show so I set out to find what I wanted. The must haves were, 1) It had to be a `71. 2) It had to be bone stock or at least nearly bone stock. I already have my hot rod and I don't need another one. 3) It had to have working a/c. and 4) It had to be a rust free car. Another plus would have been a 4 speed but an automatic wouldn't be a deal breaker. I looked for 7 months and what I found was full of bonuses. It was a numbers matching 402 big block, TH400 car with cold factory a/c, tilt wheel, disc brakes etc. And it was northern GA car all it's life. I knew right away that was the car for me. Mulsanne blue, black vinyl top and interior. I have the protecto-plate and the original `71 Georgia title. And of course, the first thing I did was put a 4 speed in it :D I can't see myself ever wanting to sell this one, either.

I know this thread is about vintage cars but my story can relate. When I was looking for a truck I wanted a 2013-2015 Nissan Titan SL 4x4 4 door with leather interior and power everything. I searched for two months looking at all sorts. I had dealers trying to sell me on others like oh this one is a blue SV or this is an extended cab 2WD with low KM's, how about red yadda yadda yadda.....NO, NO, NO. finally found my 2013 silver SL fully loaded truck that I was after 2.5 hrs away. I called the dealer that monday and said I'll be there Saturday to pick it up, have her ready! Gave him a credit card deposit over the phone and that was that, she was mine. Like Ronnie said go after what you want! As for my Riv I didn't know I wanted it until I seen it cause truth be told I was set to pick up a 68 Coronet. The night before Iwas to pick it up I seen the Riv on kijiji, fell in love, cancelled the Coronet deal and had the Riv delivered that weekend :)

Before buying any car now I have to ask myself if I love it or just like it. If I like, rather than love it, I've decided it is best for me to be patient and keep looking. When the right one comes along it will check off all, not just some of the must have boxes.

Funny topic. I wasn't even looking when I found Lord Vader.

I'd always said I'd get another Gran Sport "someday" and basically wanted to pay cash, so as not to be upside down. Next thing you know - I see it posted on a Buick Facebook page and make an inquiry with another board member. After much self wrangling, I'm on a plane to suburban Baltimore to check the car out and subsequently purchase it.

A close friend put it into perspective for me while I was straddling the fence: "this is your dream car. You never know when your number is up. Buy it."

The rest, as they say, is history....

This couldn't be more true. I had a `96 GMC Sierra that I liked so much I kept it for 9 years. It had 263,000 miles on it at the time but there was nothing wrong with it. My wife kept reminding me that it wasn't going to last forever and that I should be looking for a new one, or in my case a new used one. I haven't bought a brand new one since 1978. I stumbled onto a 2005 GMC Sierra, basically the same truck but newer. I drove 135 miles to look at it. It was Ok but something about it just didn't click with me. Nonetheless, my wife talked me into buying it and for the next 6 years I hated that truck, not that it was necessarily a bad truck, I just didn't like it and wished I had to old one back. Fortunately it's long gone now and once again I have one I really like.

    Hi again,

Missed the part you found one hard to read it all on a phone.

I think it's the taillights that makes everyone like the 65, I swapped the running lights to blinkers and they all light up, someone on 65GS added sequential lighting, might have been Loren.

I personally had a 65 as a winter beater in the early 90's, V6 post and needless to say it left a fond impression.

    Cheers,

Jim it was also the taillights that sealed the deal for me. The sequential lights would just top the car off beautifully in my opinion. But yes sir I have one and sure are happy i made that move.

Just like our Buicks, there’s a certain model or body style you really like. I made the mistake a while back of trading a 2000 GMC Sierra for a 2008 Toyota Tacoma. I hated that truck. Not only did it gulp fuel, it had more blind spots than a 90 year old with cataracts.

Sold it and found a low mile 2001 Sierra but it came from up north and was getting rusty rockers. Traded it on a 2002 Silverado that I drive now. Those 2000-2007 GMC-Chevy trucks just fit me right.

I spent about 2 years looking for the right 65 GS. I will say the search was fun and missed in a way.
