A/F gauge here- too bad the car isn't...

So the Air Fuel gauge came today- whoo-hoo! Too bad the car isn't here yet- LOL.

Picking up the car tomorrow. It was ready today but with end of month I could not get away early to go get it.

I need to figure out where to install the gauge- I am thinking of making a custom center console to hold all the gauges, but I would like the A/F to be more visible. Center console is to hold a drink (I will be driving this car, after all) and a "real" radio. Small floor console should be good.

Where can I splice in for power/lights- or should I piggy back off of one of the existing aftermarket gauges (I have volt/oil temp/temp/tach/boost/trans temp already)- I don't want to overload anything with all these gauges.

    Cheers!

I mounted my air fuel gauge in an "A" pillar dual hole pod along with a engine temp. gage. I bought the pod specific to the car and it fits pretty good and I like the looks of it. Other people might not because it is not stock. As far as wiring, you have to supply the air fuel sensor with 35 watts of power (about 3 amps.) to heat it. This has to be on a switched supply, (ie; key on key off,) so tagging on to an existing line might not be the best thing to do . I was able to get power for mine from the fuse panel. Make sure you read the instructions for your unit as there is usually a one time calibration procedure for the sensor. Mike D.

    Mike-

Yeah I read the instructions last night. Needs a 3 amp fuse minimum for the O2 Sensor heat- and the gauge needs power and calibration before you calibrate the sensor THEN install in car. Seems pretty easy-
I wasn't clear in my initial post- I was thinking of piggy backing the light power source for the gauge so it will dim when the lights are on (however I do not know at this point if any of the other gauges have light switched power or not).

I will just run a new fuse from the fuse box for the heated O2- hopefully I can figure something out- I also need to figure out where to get this huge cable into the cab from- need a hole at least the size of a quarter! :)

If you power up the system I think the gauge will be lit too. Mine (Innovate LC1) has a LED setup that works off system power. I hole sawed a 1" hole in the floor under the drivers seat, bought a rubber plug from the hardware store, drilled a hole in it for the wire bundle and slit one side to get the wires in and plugged the hole in the floor with the rubber stopper with the wires running thru it. Re: A/F gauge here- installed and everything!

OK so I got my A/F gauge installed tonght! That is the good news- the bad news is it looks like I have a lot of tuning to do, wondering if I am getting enough fuel pressure? When I give it gas off of idle the A/F pegs at 22.6 (highest reading it can show) and the car stumbles and almost dies. If I give it a bit of gas and feather it it will stay running but still go up to 16 or so. At idle it is showing 12.5-

It was dark and I still need to tidy up my cables and sensor wires so I only let it idle for a couple minutes and the car never got to operating temps so we will see what they do once it is warm...

Might be something wrong with the accel. pump. What kind of carb. are you running? Mine idles on the lean side but jumps right where it should be when I give it a stab on the gas pedal. The engine runs around 14.1 A/F when cruising. I'm running an 800 Qudrajet.

Accelerator pump is what I am thinking too- when I stab the pedal it stumbles and almost dies (or does die)- if I ease into the gas then it runs fine and the A/F stays pretty much where it should be. It is a quickfuel blow-through carb (650CFM I believe). I ordered a jet kit to tune it- I suppose I should look for an accel. pump kit too? Also when getting the A/F gauge in I think I broke my temp gauge- it no longer reads anything but was working fine on my drive home.

It has one of the SUNPRO cheap mini-triple gauge sets in it so a whole new three pack of gauges is $28, but I may step up from the 1 1/2" gauges to a 2" set. I have been reading and the SUNPRO mechanical temp gauge is notorious for only working a year or so. Going to a 2" setup will let me see the gauges better and when the temp dies again in a year or two I can replace it with a better 2" gauge. The 2" guage setup is only $5 more then the 1 1/2" but then I have to re-run two capilary tubes and not just one. I will decide today when I place a new order. Going to get a new tach today as well.
