For you engine builders out there, what's the best way to prevent crank from turning when torquing damper and flywheel bolts. Engine is on stand with heads off (will be going on after checking piston to valve clearance).
Also on piston to valve clearance, I am running TA cam 288-94h and speed pro pistons with no valve notches at .010 in the hole ( or less ) .Any one with experience with this combination? Hoping I won't have to get pistons cut for notches.

You could buy a tool to hold the flywheel or flexplate to torque. Then hold it to torque front balancer bolt.
Fwiw I don't torque the front bolt. Just use a high torque I impact wrench. For on and off.

Same here impact wrench on balancer bolt and done, piece of pipe on the end of a 1/2in pull bar on crank bolt proped against the leg of engine stand, or a prybar thru flexplate hole against the block either will hold it for torquing the flexplate/flywheel bolts. They are 55ftlbs I believe with plugs in you can TQ them without it turning to much

For as long as I can remember I've used a "Kant Twist" clamp on the flexplate. I simply clamp it on the flexplate and rotate the assembly over until the clamp contacts the block. I do the same when installing or removing converter bolts.
