    Good evening everyone.

I have two questions. After tirelessly going through starter threads here I've decided to go with a 9511 XS starter.

    1) How many of you have had to shim this starter? I've only seen one post where they had to use shims.

    2) Are 350 & 455 starter heat shields the same? My 455 didn't have one but my 350 does.

    Thanks,

    Kyle

I have one and did have to shim it. Not a big deal just follow the directions.

If you have a stock flex plate, chances are you won’t need any shims at all.

    Great!

Any idea of the heat shields being the same or do the 350 & 455 differ?

I can’t see why the heat shield would be different.

    Good deal.

I took the heat shield off of my 350, cleaned it up & put it on the 455 with no problems.

P.S. Not to gloat but all 7 of the exhaust manifold bolts came out with a 3/8” drive ratchet. No soaking and none of them broke or anything:eek::)!! It was a very satisfying experience.

I hope you have better luck than I did. I'd look for the one the guy on this board sells. Or I would call TA.
