Hey guys, posi rear end for sale. I drove the car home before pulling rear end. No problems. Passes GM's posi test procedure outlined in their chassis manual. Have to get it out of my garage. Taking up to much room. Looking for 150 bucks.

Is this just the posi unit for a 8.5?

No, it's not a 8.5, it is a 8.875. It's the whole differential also plus drums.

    Hello Bill

Would that be a 5" on 5" bolt pattern? What model Buick did it come out of?
Interested in a new assembly for my 51 Chevy panel truck with a 455 in it.....

    Thanks!

Ya, the rear came out of a 75 Electra. So I believe the rear is a 2.73 rear. It is a 5x5 rear end.

Sounds good so far! I'm interested.

Any chance you could tape measure the distance from the back of the backing plates left to right?

That would be a critical dimension for my application.
    Thanks!
    Mike

Sure thing, it is 58 from back to back, and 37 from centers of the spring perches if it helps you out at all.

    Hello Bill
Well, it's just a few inches more than the body work will allow unfortunately.
Wished it would have worked out.... I have a 52 Olds back there now and it makes me nervous with a 455
    Buick up front!
    Good luck ... it's a great deal

Ugh Bill...I've been trying to NOT buy this from you for the longest lol. My rear end is making some noise, and this might be an opportunity for me.

Would you be able to ship it?

    Heya,

I'd only ship if I could disassemble it. Meaning the whole carrier, pinion, bearings, shims etc. I don't usually like rears coming apart cause it can sometimes be tough to setup a used ring and pinion, but it has been done many times. :D

Anybody know what other gear sets are available for this rear? I know the 9 3/8 is tough; wondering if this one's more changeable. I'd be interested if I could change it to a 3.08 or 3.23.

BTW: how many miles on the car before you pulled the rear? Pics?

The rear that is in my Electra now is a 3.08 rear, but I don't want to switch it out for the 2.73. So their are at least a couple different ratios available. The only reason i got a 308 was because my Electra originally had a 350/375b setup in it. I suppose they geared it that way cause of the smaller engine. Gotta get the boat rowing one way or the other. Their is no after market support for the ring and pinion except for maybe the gentleman by the name of Monzaz. The bearings and such are easier to find. The rear had about 105,000 miles on it i believe. If you're interested I can get some pics up on Saturday.
