8.5 gn rear with 500+hp 455 will hold up?

    alec296 i need another buick

    i have a regal body with gn 8.5 with girdle/spool/4.10/big bearing axles
    will this hold up to my 500+ hp 455?
    it was in my car already but i have a stock 12 bolt i could start with
    any suggestions.

    Yes it will hold up.Mine in my GN is still going strong after a few years of 500+ RWHP.A few guys are running close to 1000 RWHP through them.

    It should if car is footbraked. You have got rid of the major bad link, ie c-clips, & gone to bolt-in axles. What posi carrier is in the 8.5?

    Andy,
    Missed the spool part earlier when rapidly typing :(
    The built-up 8.5 should be mighty strong, 550 hp, 600 lbs of torque, no problem. Addition of a steel lh cap or a TA Performance or LPW cover will strengthen the LH cap area for "extreme" 8.5 or 12 bolt use, if you keep stepping up the engine.
