What is this 8.5 out of? I am not familiar with the geometry.

I am thinking a wagon. Its got 5 wheelstuds on 5" center. Big 12" brake backing plates.

Measures 55.5" backing plate to backing plate

Axletube code looks like 7 CA 342 1 to me. I think its a 2.56 posi.

what do you think? anyone recognize it?

So it's got spring perches directly on the tube and front shock mounts..it's probably a 73-77 A body wagon.

1978-1988 B-body sedan (wagons were widest rears the same width as the 1971-1976 FULL size car rears sedans) The a-body 73-77 were the same width as the 78-88 sedan. It is Not A-body as it has 5 on 5 bolt pattern
It is not 90 - 96 as it does not have the ABS reluctor sensor casting in the pinion snout area. The give away is the 11" backing plates with heavy backspaced backing plates the 2 or 2.25 brake shoes and deep drums.

remember if the backing plate is 12" the shoes aRE USUALLy AN INCH LESS 11"
