The stock intake,...but seriously there is no gain with just bolting on an aluminum intake on a stock engine
No gain in performance, but you do lose 40lbs. or so off the engine and it will run a bit cooler. If you are using the stock choke thermostatic coil, that will not transfer to the aluminum intake. You can convert your Q-jet to electric choke if you like. Your choices are the Edelbrock Performer or B4B. http://www.taperformance.com/products.asp?cat=103
The stock Intake is not much of a concern with stock flowing heads and even mild Cams up to 5500 rpm with your cid motor! If anything a ducted ram air set up will get you the most bang for the buck in conjunction with richening up the secondary side of the Carb some .
The only way losing 40 pounds is better is if it comes off your belly; or if it comes off the rotating/reciprocating part of the powertrain. Losing 40 pounds from high in the front is wonderful. Some Q-Jets "convert" easier than others. The divorced-choke models require an electric choke mounted on the intake manifold. I only know one supplier of those.
Schurkey, What do you think of this kit by Ken at Everyday Performance? http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?th...n-kits-for-1968-1974-buick-quadrajets.302450/
I learn something new every day. Today I learned that the electric choke doesn't HAVE to be mounted to the intake manifold... The next question would be: Is this adaptable to non-Buick divorced-choke Q-jets. The divorced-electric choke I alluded to earlier is at the bottom of this web page: http://www.carburetion.com/quadrajet.asp
